CR2 Technologies has announced the launch of CYBRARIAN, a library management software system, which is the first of its kind in Asia. CYBRARIAN is a Web-based, seamless and fully-integrated library management software system hosted on a remote server. It is based on the SaaS (Software as a Service) concept, so users can access the service on a 'pay-as-you-use' basis.
CYBRARIAN was launched during the LIBRARIAN Users Meet held in Ahmedabad last week. A group of librarians across the country, who are active users of LIBRARIAN - a library management software, assemble once a year to share and discuss their problems and experiences with the library management software. The company believes that the experience of each librarian is unique and at the meet they come out with new ideas to improve and to add new features to the software to make it more functional, user friendly and effective.
"CYBRARIAN will allow librarians to access and run the software with the help of an ordinary low cost PC having a Web browser. They will be able to effect all transactions like acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, periodicals management (PMS), article indexing, reports management etc. online as if the entire application is running on their desk," said Suyash K, CEO, CR2.
He added, "At a very low hosting fee, CYBRARIAN provides users facilities like software usage, secure data storage and management, virus protection, backups, patch management, product updates, technical support and maintenance. CYBRARIAN follows all international standards like MARC21, Z39.50, AACR2, MARCXML and ISO 2079 and is equipped with UNICODE (multi-lingual) facility. Librarians or resource centre managers can also customise the application as per their requirements without help or need from the software vendor. Moreover, reports can also be self-customised."
"CYBRARIAN also allows member libraries to form or create their own network of libraries dealing with similar or related subjects/ background/ industries for resource sharing by collecting, storing and disseminating information and would offer networked services like information about resources scattered in libraries throughout the world, referencing materials to meet the requirements of students, researchers, scholars and the general public and Inter Library Loan without incurring any extra cost," said Sohaon K, COO of the company.
