GOTY 2010 - Action

And the most explosive action game of 2010 is...
|
Like FPS' this year, the Action genre was largely dominated by sequels rather than brave new IPs. But that's really not a bad thing as we had tons of good action games this year that made choosing just one game a tough task. And the nominees are - God of War: Ghost of Sparta (PSP) Midas is about to lose his touch Continuing Kratos’ legacy on the handheld platform, Ghost of Sparta was perhaps the most awesome PSP game till date. Not to be limited by the technicalities of the PSP, the game soared high with its lofty ambitions to deliver Kratos’ final blood soaked adventure with much aplomb. It also managed to answer the perennial question of why Kratos is so goddamn angry all the time. Red Dead Redemption (Xbox360/PS3) Marston's Yo Yo The Wild West has been a genre left dormant by game developers for a while now and so Rockstar took it upon themselves to resurrect it with their open world approach. The result was one of the most immersive action games ever created - full of things to do and interesting characters to meet, allowing players to experience living in the Wild without actually, you know, getting out of your house. Alan Wake (Xbox360) But I'm just a writer Alan Wake might not have been worth the five year wait Remedy put us through, but it still delivered an engaging experience that managed to tread the fine line between survival horror and action. As Alan Wake, players travelled to the gorgeous and idyllic town of Bright Falls where people feared the dark for a reason. Can you feel the irony yet? Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood (Xbox360/PS3) Assassin training FTW Following the “If it isn’t broken why fix it” philosophy, Brotherhood brought back all that we loved from Assassin’s Creed II with the addition of certain gameplay mechanics and more noticeably, multiplayer. While it does sound a bit weird, multiplayer in ACB was surprisingly entertaining allowing players to partake in a game of wits as they strived to assassinate one another without being detected. God of War III (PS3) This will all be over real soon Kratos’ final adventure was perhaps his most epic one yet. Not to mention bloody, violent and downright beautiful. GoW III piled on everything you would expect from a God of War game like breath taking visuals, over-the-top violence, an epic story and solid voice acting. The only disappointing aspect of this game was that it was Kratos’ final adventure. |

7.0
We’ve already established that the Lumia 720 is Nokia’s best effort as far as Windows Phone 8 handsets go. This could soon change once the Lumia 925 hits markets, but as it stands now, the Lumia 720 offers the best blend of features and performance, wrapped in a beautiful package that’s quite affordable.
