Top three affordable home-theatre systems.

Now that we’re done with the TVs, let's move on to stuff we’d like to have with our giant or not-so-giant screens. This time, we’re giving out the GOTY award for best budget 5.1 home theatre system. Panasonic SC-PT870 – The Winner! This is by far the best one on the list, as it has great sound and picture quality. It also has some nice features which include FM radio, an integrated iPod dock, plenty of input options, as well as the ability to go wireless. And did I mention that it’s also really loud? Priced at Rs. 27,900 it is the most expensive of the lot, but definitely worth the buy, if you want something that packs a punch without taking up too much space. Definitely the best in its class Philips HTS3571 – First Runner up Philips calls this a ‘Home Theatre in a box’; but don’t they all come in boxes? Aside from this faux pas, the Philips HTS3571 is a really good home theatre system and is the cheapest amongst the top three. Priced at Rs. 17,500, it is also more powerful than the other two at 1180 RMS. The only disadvantage this has over the others is the lack of wireless ability. So if you are looking for your first home theatre system, and your pockets are feeling pinched, here’s a good option. Complete value for money, but lacks wireless capabilities Sony DAV-DZ810 – Second Runner up This home theatre system is a formidable opponent, and comes in at third place. What is nice about this system is the quality of up-scaled video. Even the bass is very impressive, and the overall output is quite nice and loud. This one is recommended for people looking to just enjoy movies and TV but without spending on separate components. This system has one disadvantage and that is the high and mid frequencies that sound like they’re a bit over the top. But that can always be controlled with EQ settings. 3rd place isn't that bad Here’s the specs sheet for you to take a closer look: Click to enlarge So that’s that, but I’ll be back in a couple of days with the next GOTY award, so stay tuned! |
