We take a look at the best that didn't fit in with the rest.

As we wrap up 2010’s Game of the year awards it’s time to honor those games that never really fit into our previous awards ceremonies. We’re talking about Honorable mentions and joining me today on this most noble endeavor is Chip’s Sameer Desai. Most Violent Game of 2010 Sam: You know, there's only one game that comes to mind. Nash: Splatterhouse? Sam: Umm, no. A game that didn't suck. I’m talking about the game that had you pummeling Gods from a first person perspective. This isn't going to end well Nash: Oh hell yeah. In fact, God of War III had so many over-the-top kills it would be tough to choose one. From yanking a giant fingernail off a titan to ripping a God’s head to use it as a flashlight, the game made us all cringe numerous times. Sam: I’d like to give a special shout out to Limbo as well. It was only black and white and you couldn't even see any blood, but when you heard your body snap after stepping in a bear trap, DAMN! Best Indie/Downloadable Game Nash: I’m going with Limbo over here. I totally dug the art style and the minimalistic approach taken by the game's developers. Minimalistic beauty Sam: No doubt. Best art style in a game this year, and great puzzles too. It's a shame that it’s only available on the Xbox 360, because more people need to play this. Biggest Badass of 2010 Nash: Once again I’m going to go with the angriest man on the planet, Kratos. Not only did he destroy all of Olympus in GoW III but he also brought about the destruction of Atlantis in Ghost of Sparta. Now that’s some serious badassery right there. No man more Badass than the God of War himself Sam: Yup, any year there’s a God of War game, you can’t really look beyond Kratos for this category. This year we had two God of War games and he actually seemed more of a badass in Ghost of Sparta. Most WTF moment in 2010 Nash: For me that would have to be the ending of Red Dead Redemption. While I did see it coming to a certain extent, I was still like all “Whoa, WTF is this” when it happened. And the stuff that went down after the credits was even more awesome. A phenomenal ending to an awesome game Sam: I think one of the most WTF moments for me was the ending of Kane & Lynch 2. I like the whole camera style and art style of the game, so the abruptness of it didn't seem out of place, but I didn't expect the game to end that soon. I thought I was barely halfway through the game and suddenly the end credits start rolling. So I was like, "WTF, is that it?" Stylish yet very short Nash: You know I think I’m the only guy who enjoyed the game. Sam: I liked it too, especially when you consider the imaginative multiplayer modes. I liked the campaign while it lasted, but I was taken by surprise when it ended. I expected more. |
