IPS Technology

A short brief on IPS technology - where it's come from and where it's going.

IPS Technology

IPS (In Plane Switching) technology is all the rage, and all television and display manufacturers who want to get ahead have adopted it so as to meet consumers’ expectations. IPS LCD products are what’s in, and it looks like this technology is here to stay. In fact, even the professional sector, has long since upgraded to displays with IPS technology. Industries such as design and print have been using this technology, as have sectors in space and medicine.

IPS technology is one of the most leading LCD technologies in the world. It innovatively aligns liquid crystal horizontally to increase the viewing angle and changes the LCD transmittance. IPS is mainly owned by the LG Display Company. This technology was unanimously accepted in its early phase by professionals from all across the globe.

IPS LCDs are known for their advantages of dynamic definition, color reducibility and
visible angles, etc. Comparing with the traditional ones, IPS LCD has stable liquid crystal molecule arrangement, fast response speed, etc. Thus, it has extra quality of dynamic definition, having completely eliminated the dim and water wave after being pressed and shaken externally. It has put an end to the broken and drag shadow in reproducing fast-moving pictures. This is more than enough reason for TV and display manufacturers to start using IPS enabled LCDs to show intact pictures.

If you compare this cutting edge technology with VA (vertical arrangement) LCD technologies, the molecule reducibility of IPS technology is more powerful, and its panel is more stable and durable. Besides, IPS technology has widened the visible angles in all upper, lower, left and right sides, being close to 180° making the picture quality intact from all directions.

We know that we prefer high definition in taking LCD TV sets. However, the ones promoted in the market are of static definition. We want to watch dynamic pictures of TV programs and games. The VA LCD offers inferior quality pictures that literally destroy images. To satisfy consumers, this issue must be solved effectively, which is where IPS LCD panels come into play.

LCD TV sets are just for viewing purposes, so why touch them? However, if you do try touching the displays, you will clearly see that some VA Panel LCD TV showed a clear “water wave”. Furthermore, while showing dynamic pictures, some of them will stop after being touched, and you will see that the display is just in a mess. On the other hand, most IPS LCDs can well support the “touch” test. After understanding both the “soft and hard” displays, you will surely find the difference in quality. The “soft” LCD TV sets will inevitably show the “drag” in the any programmes that have fast moving images such as sports and action movies. By watching them for a long time, your eyes will surely tire. Obviously, there are lots of sciences behind the “soft and hard” LCDs. This is not the case with IPS enabled displays.

IPS technology is one of the most leading LCD technologies in the world and is a main technological breakthrough in metrics of energy conservation. In comparison with VA panels, IPS drove power consumption further downwards and is more energy conserving and environmental friendly. IPS technology innovatively aligned liquid crystals horizontally so as to reduce the thickness of liquid crystal layer and changed the LCD transmittance. Furthermore, IPS adopted bi-polar driver technology that increased pixel aperture ratio by 25%. Because of greater aperture ratio, IPS, when applied to LCD TV, can reduce power of backlights to save power and energy. In the meanwhile, as durable consumer goods, IPS LCD TV has nominal use life of over 70,000 hours, more enduring
than VA LCD TVs.

In addition to the basic TV attributes, there are an increasing number of interfaces and additional functions such as Internet and digital device connection for online movies and video games. IPS LCD TVs are being taken into greater number of living rooms thanks to its breakthroughs in dynamic image quality. The television is undoubtedly the central device for home interaction entertainment and IPS technology is just an added bonus.

 6.5

The Sony Xperia Tablet Z is the only new 10.1-inch Android tablet to launch this year. And with no one to contend against, it is commanding a substantial premium in the market. This is not any run-of-the-mill tablet, though. The care and polish delivered by Sony is simply brilliant as we’ll see in a bit.
