Halo’s Plasma sword has finally found a replacement! Although the Plasma Sword in Halo 2 kicked ass, the Master Chief has a new melee love in Halo 3 that makes the Plasma Sword look like a butter knife. I’m talking about the Gravity Hammer, which the brutes in Halo 2 used to kick your butt. This time around, you get a chance to give them a dose of their own medicine. This baby leaves a shockwave around the point of impact that’ll slaughter all enemies in the vicinity.

The Gravity Hammer is by far the most powerful melee weapon I’ve ever seen in any first person shooter. You can use it for a limited number of hits only, after which it runs out of charge. That’s not a big problem, since you don’t need to keep whacking away with it; it takes down even the most formidable foe in one or two hits max.

Killing armies of the Flood in Halo 3 using this weapon took me mere seconds. There’s something empowering about jumping in the air and bringing this massive hammer down to smite your foes and watch their corpses fly. If you’re not planning on playing Halo 3, I suggest that you reconsider just for this weapon.
