Here's what 2009 has in store for first person shooter buffs.

Now that we’re done with our mammoth action list, it’s time to look at some of the shooters of 2009. Every gamer on the block was blown away by the CG trailer shown at E3 2005. After that showing (and the controversy that followed suite), the game sort of vanished from the horizon only to remerge a few years later looking nearly as good as it's CG counterpart. While I'm not too thrilled with the way the preview build controlled, there's no denying the fact that it was one of the most visceral and chaotic shooters I had played till date. Head over to our hands on preview to see why you need to hook up a PS3 by February. I loved F.E.A.R. to death playing it multiple times over the years (since 2006 to be exact). The subsequent expansion packs that followed (not developed by Monolith) were pretty meh leaving me craving for a full fledged sequel. Off course since the game performed really well both critically and commercially, a sequel wasn't far away and sure enough Monolith are back with a sequel that'll dwell deeper into the life of uber creepy bitch Alma. Making his debut in this game is a brand new protagonist by the name of Michael Becket who'll be exploring the remains of the city that was obliterated after the end of F.E.A.R. Conceptualized as a remake of the most excellent Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (EFBB), Escape from Dark Athena is now turning into a full fledged sequel. If that wasn't awesome enough it'll even be bundled with the entire (graphically polished) EFBB campaign and multiplayer modes. The story will continue exactly from where EFBB left off with Riddick barely making it out of Butcher Bay only to be entangled in more problems on a Mercenary ship called Dark Athena, floating around in the annals of the galaxy. |
