10 Must Buy PS2 Games

In the era of cutting edge graphics and HDTVs, the humble PlayStation 2 still stands strong with its ginormous library of awesome games. We’ve narrowed years worth of gaming into ten must buy titles that deserve a spot in your PS2 library. No other game out there has managed to capture gang life in the 90s like San Andreas. As Carl Johnson, a troubled youth in the fictional state of San Andreas, you had to deal with the hustlers, the ballers, and the gang bangers while on the lookout for his mother’s killer. Stellar voice acting, deep gameplay and a copious amount of gameplay options made San Andreas pretty much the best GTA game ever made. For a game that was only about boss fights, Shadow of the Colossus was a simple yet brilliant effort in which you had to slay 14 colossal bosses to save the love of your life. The kicker over here was the fact that all the bosses were living, breathing gigantic levels in themselves, making each and every encounter a memorable one. Kratos has his rage, Ryu Hyabusa has insane ninja skills and Dante has his sorrow, but there’s no doubt that Dante is the most flamboyant of the lot, flaunting his style like there’s no tomorrow. The half human, half devil son of Sparda makes nunchucks out of motorbikes, skateboards out of demons and annihilates hell spawn like they were made of candy. Sure it may not be as gorgeous, violent and visceral as God of War III, but the second iteration of Kratos’ rage-filled journey was an improvement over the original in nearly every way. You had a longer campaign, improved and more varied combat mechanics, and visuals that are still considered cutting-edge for the PS2. While the Gran Turismo series originated on the PS One, it was on the PS2 that it really hit its stride. Gran Turismo 3 A-Spec is probably the most revolutionary racing game of our time, and Gran Turismo 4 improved upon it further, with more cars and improved graphics. If you like the challenge that simulation racers pose, then Gran Turismo 4 is the definitive racing game on the PS2. |
