Grudge Match Round 2: Netbook vs Desktop PC

| by Dushyant Khilnani

This time, the comparison is between a netbook and a desktop PC, do we have an obvious winner?

Grudge Match Round 2: Netbook vs Desktop PC

In round one, the Asus EeePC 1201N was up against the MSI CR420 , where the former seemed to have taken the lead, in many aspects. It’s time to bring in a more promising and powerful contender, a full fledged desktop PC, which happens to fall in the same price range, but with a completely different feature set, obviously.
This picture is for representational purpose, the end product might look different

It might sound ridiculous to compare a netbook to a desktop PC, but the point here is that both these products are in the same price range, with the difference of a couple of thousand rupees. So who do you think will bag it this time?

Desktop PC
  • Price: Rs 31,000
  • Motherboard: Asus M4N68TM, Nvidia GeForce 7025
  • Processor: AMD Athlon X2 235, 2.90 GHz
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR3
  • Hard drive: WD Caviar Green 500 GB
  • Graphics: Onboard
  • Optical drive: LG DVD-writer (22x)
  • Network: Gigabit
  • Monitor: Samsung SyncMaster 943 NWX – 19-inch TFT
  • Keyboard/mouse combo: Microsoft Desktop 500
  • Speakers: Creative Inspire T3130
  • PC Cabinet: Circle Delight (Grey)
  • Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Basic
  • Office suite: Microsoft Office 2007 Home and Student
  • Status: Available

Upper hand
: Much better processing power, hence better performance, much superior feature set, larger screen, bundled office suite, more scope for upgrades, much more value for money (in terms of functionality) and so on.

Compromise: Restricted to one workstation (not portable at all), no wireless connectivity, no HDMI out.
