Best of E3 2011

| by Avinash Bali

While E3 2011 was a disappointment, here are some of the cool moments we salvaged from this expo.

Best of E3 2011

E3 2011 was a bummer. Bigwigs like Microsoft and Sony still concentrated on the Xbox360 and 3D respectively sidelining new games in the process. Apart from maybe Far Cry 3 and Halo 4, which were sequels there were no new IPs announced. But every cloud has a silver lining and here’s what we managed to salvage from E3 2011.

Wii U

Nintendo’s latest console titled the Wii U looked promising even though it has like the stupidest name ever.  But all said and done, Nintendo have finally made the jump to HD which means better visuals from first party as well as third party developers. It also seems the Wii U has already started attracting developers who’s games you actually care about what with Darksiders II and Arkham City being announced for that platform. And most importantly, Nintendo have seemed to bridge the gap between handheld and couch gaming as the Wii U can seamlessly continue your game even after the console’s unplugged from your TV.

God of War Origins

If you’ve missed out on Kratos’ handheld adventures, you can now catch up on all the bloodshed through God of War Origins, an HD bundle exclusively for the PS3 that includes both Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. Both games will now be available in 1080P, offer 3D support, trophies (hell yeah) and make use of the DualShock’s right analog stick. Expect the bundle this September.

Halo 4 and Halo HD

Guess who's baaaaaack

Guess who's baaaaaack

The Halo series has been insanely lucrative for Microsoft and if you’re wondering what the big deal is, you can now catch the game that started it all in HD. Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary is an HD remake of Combat evolved that’ll include co-operative play (but of course) and seven classic MP maps. In addition, we even have the return of Master Chief through Halo 4 who’s only proof of existence is this teaser trailer.

Battlefield 3 Release Date

Deploying this October

Deploying this October

No MP footage was shown but we did get a release date so that’s something. Battlefield 3 releases for the Xbox360, PS3 and PC by the 25th of October 2011. All those who’ve purchased the special edition of Medal of Honor will gain access to the MP beta nearly a month earlier.

Far Cry 3

Far Cry 2 was a game marred by repletion and hopefully Ubisoft have learnt their lesson this time round. In Far Cry 3, players step into the boots of Jason Brody, an unfortunate resident on a beautiful island who’s on the run from a hyper violent mad man. Expect the game in 2012.

Well that’s about all for me. If you felt otherwise, share your thoughts, be they happy or sad, in the comments below.
