Gamescom 2011 Wish List

10 Aug, 2011, 5:17 pm IST | by Avinash Bali

Since E3 2011 was a bummer, we're hope Gamescom 2011 blows our socks off. Here's our small wish list for the event that kicks off in Germany next week.

Gamescom 2011 Wish List

Well, E3 2011 came and went with a whimper. Besides a few reveals that I spoke about here, there was nothing at the expo to shout about. Actually shout about would be an exaggeration since there was barely anything to talk about. Anyway, that’s all in the past now. Starting this Monday, the biggest gaming expo in Europe kicks off by way of Gamescom 2011 and being the optimistic fools that we are, we can’t help but think (or rather hope) this expo will blow our brains. Here’s our small little wishlist.

Max Payne 3 (re)Reveal

Where are you Max Payne?

Where are you Max Payne?

Max Payne has been MIA (missing in action) for a while now. Even though developer Rockstar delivered two new stellar IPs (Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire) in the past year or so, the fact that their bald, tormented cop hasn’t made a public appearance yet is kind of worrying.  Considering that there were rumors regarding Max Payne 3’s release towards the end of year, we’re hoping he does at least stop over at Gamescom this year.

More Battlefield 3 details

We need to see those jets

We need to see those jets

Over the past few months we’ve been showered by Battlefield 3’s multiplayer (leaked) gameplay (thanks to the alpha) as well as single player footage but in none of them have we seen jets. And we really need to see the jets in action DICE. Plus it would be real nice if we could get a glimpse at the game’s co-operative mode as well. No that’s not campaign co-op we’re talking of here; Battlefield 3 will bring with it a bunch of stand-alone missions for up to two players.

New Burnout game

Bring Revenge back

Bring Revenge back

The open world formula doesn’t really gel with the Burnout series but Burnout Paradise was a fun game. Still I’ll be super glad if Criterion went back to the mega awesome Burnout Revenge formula where players could concentrate on racing and decimating rather than figuring out which turn to take at 5,0000 miles an hour. And please, Criterion, I beg of you, do not make another top down Burnout game ever again.

Dishonored gameplay

There is no honor in death

There is no honor in death

While most of the gaming industry is happy doling out sequel after sequel, there are a few companies out there that have the stones to invest in new properties. Once such recently announced game, Dishonored, has really perked my interest. An open world, first person action game with a focus on stealth and melee combat, Dishonored will be benefited by many talented developers like Todd Howard (the driving force behind the Fallout series) and Viktor Antonov, the man who designed Half-Life 2's iconic City 17.

Diablo 3 release date

Will we be playing Diablo 3 this year?

Will we be playing Diablo 3 this year?

Select outlets from the Western media have been enjoying a Diablo 3 build since the past few days while the rest of us wait patiently for Blizzard to spill the beans on the recently announced Diablo 3 beta. We also hope they’ll be gracious enough to divulge the game’s release date which till day is shrouded in mystery. Will we be playing this game in 2011 or not Blizzard?

Borderlands 2 gameplay

He doesn't look too happy

He doesn't look too happy

Last week developer Gearbox Software announced Borderlands 2 and while that really didn’t take anyone by surprise, it was nice to know that the game will be publically unveiled at Gamescom this year. Are we looking at the same successful four player co-op formula over here or do Gearbox have something new up their sleeve?

NO MOTION CONTROLLED CRAP

None of this PLEASE

None of this PLEASE

Yeah I see the CAPS but hopefully that will convey my rage at seeing motion control gaming dominate every gaming expo since E3 2010. For the love of anything holy, please let it be about the games this year. No embarrassing dances by pasty white folk and forced cuteness by kids who couldn’t give two hoots about gaming.
