HD Remakes Wishlist

Here are 5 HD remakes we'd like to see announced real soon.

HD Remakes Wishlist

A while back, I spoke about why I liked my HD remakes and I also listed out some of the HD remakes you can look forward to this year. With Gamescom 2011 right around the corner, it’s a given that a few more will be announced in Germany, next week. But just in case they’re not, here’s a quick list of HD remakes I’d like to see made.

Devil May Cry series

That's how demon hunters roll

That's how demon hunters roll

Originally conceptualized as a survival horror game, the Devil may Cry series instead turned out to be one of the most stylish action games ever to grace consoles. While the second game faltered a bit with pacing, Capcom nailed the formula with Devil may Cry 3, a game that till date remains one of the coolest games ever made. And now, as you know, the reigns of development have passed over to developer Ninja Theory who much to the horror of all DMC fans have Twilightified Dante, the badass demon hunter. Sure the game may turn out to be ace but if it doesn’t, Capcom should really give us an HD remake, so at least our last memory of Dante is a good one.

Black

A cathartic and destructive shooter from the crazy Brits behind the Burnout games, Black was all about feeling the chaos of a gun fight. Every enemy encounter was an intense one as bullets chipped debris off walls, kicked off dirt and caused a ton of havoc with the environment. And mind you, this was all running on the PS2 and the Xbox at very acceptable frame rates. Unfortunately, this game didn’t sell too well, so even if Criterion never make a sequel, we sure hope they’ll be kind enough to give us an HD remake of one of the most satisfying shooters ever made.

Grand Theft Auto Trilogy

Best game ever made!

Best game ever made!

Before Grand Theft Auto IV’s realistic depiction of life in Liberty City, the GTA series was all about over-the-top, mindless indulgence in an open world. GTA III, GTA: Vice City and GTA: San Andreas all of these games gave players virtual playgrounds to go absolutely bonkers, while keeping them engrossed in the plot thanks to some stellar voice acting and a myriad of interesting characters. And now even though Rockstar may drop GTA V on us soon, there’s still no doubt that cruising down the freeways of San Andreas while listening to ‘Nuthin’ But a G Thang’ by Dr. Dre remains one of the most memorable gaming experiences ever. West side fo’ life.

Burnout Takedown and Revenge

You'll never have this much fun with any other racer

You'll never have this much fun with any other racer

Burnout Revenge is without a doubt the most entertaining racer ever made for consoles. Fusing insane speeds with some of the best car crashes to grace a game, Revenge appealed to everyone irrespective of age or gender (yes I do know girls who enjoy this game). While Xbox360 owners were lucky enough to experience Revenge in HD, PS3 owners were left out in the cold. And even if Criterion decide never to remake this game for the PS3, they should also consider churning out an HD remake of Takedown, a game way tougher and more rewarding than its vengeful counterpart. After all, that was the game that shot Criterion into the spotlight.

Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks

Shaolin Monks has got to be one of the best co-operative experiences of my life. Playing as either the high pitched Lui Kang or Kung Lao, players co-operatively ventured out into the realms to protect Earth from Shang Tsung and his scum. What set this game apart from the pack was the fact that it was the first Mortal Kombat game that wasn’t a 2D fighter. In fact this was an all out 3D brawler where players could literally juggle opponents between each other and pull off all sorts of crazy moves. And of course, like all MK games this one was high on violence delivering over-the-top fatalities with almost comedic effect.
