Major product launches in India are bound to be star-studded and the tech industry is no exception. Having a top Bollywood star at your event solidifies your presence to the junta and hey, for all you know, if someone really idolizes a starlet, they might just go out and buy the phone she tells them to go out and buy. Here are five pretty big product launches with Bollywood actresses endorsing the product.
1. Nargis Fakhri - Samsung Galaxy S III Nargis Fakhri and the S3
The latest Bollywood starlet on the tech carpet, Fakhri helped Samsung launch the anticipated Galaxy S III. Still famous from her debut role in Rockstar in 2011, alongside Ranbir Kapoor, Fakhri launched the Samsung Galaxy S III, which has an official MRP of Rs. 43,180. At that jawdropping price, one can hope that the phone is worth it. But we can safely say that those at the product launch in Delhi today got their money's worth.
2. Katrina Kaif - BlackBerry Curve 9220 Katrina launches a Curve
We all currently love to hate on RIM. But what if Katrina Kaif was standing right in front of you? Would you still use RIM as your punching bag? Kaif helped BlackBerry launch their Curve 9220 phone in Delhi last month. The handset was priced at Rs.10,990 (inclusive of taxes) and while we at Tech2 called the phone an old wine in a new bottle, can it matter when the grape is Katrina Kaif?
3. Priyanka Chopra - Nikon Coolpix and Nokia N8 Priyanka Chopra for the Coolpix
Fondly called "Piggy Chops", Priyanka Chopra has launched not one, but two gadgets in the Indian market. Her first launch was the Nokia N8, which Nokia launched in October 2010. The phone was priced at Rs. 26,259 and the actress even pulled a little stunt with the phone. She said that she disappeared for 48 hours with the Nokia N8 and at the launch, talked all about her experiences during her getaway. Last month, Chopra helped Nikon launch their new summer line of Coolpix cameras. The collection came with 13 models of cameras in a variety of colours. Chopra admitted that her favourite one of the lot was the S6300. If it's good enough for Ms. Piggy (chops), it's (arguably) good enough for us.
4. Deepika Padukone - Sony Cybershot Deepika super wide?
Last year, Sony announced Deepika Padukone as their brand ambassador and in her first line of duties, she unveiled a range of Cybershot cameras. The campaign was called "Super wide shot Supermodel". The cameras were equipped with a feature called Sweep Panorama that you can use to capture ultra-wide pictures with a huge field view of up to 270 degrees. Padukone said that she felt great honour in being associated with a 'cult' brand, like Sony. And while she may not keep her romantic entanglement secrets very secret (aka Ranbir Kapoor on Koffee with Karan), Sony romancing Deepika is the right idea.
5. Sunny Leone - Chaze Mobiles Sunny Leone for Chaze
If you hadn't previously known what Chaze Mobiles was, you will now. Sunny Leone, Ms. Controversy herself is the face of the mobile company and launched their models in the country. The models included the C123, C555 and C234. Of course, a company has to think hard when hiring Leone when she has the resume she does, but hey, they're a new Indian brand and they're using a household name actress to sell their products. The company seems very happy to bring what they call "a rising star of Indian cinema" onboard and all we can say is good luck to you both.
So there you have it. Do you think these starlets can sell the tech that they are the face of? Or are the companies spending their marketing budget for no good reason? Let us know what you think in the comments section below. |
