The last GOTY award I presented was to the Philips 24-inch LED TV for the best entry level HDTV. Now it’s time to see which mid-range HDTV gets the gold. Philips 42PFL5609 – First Place For the market price of Rs. 56,000, this TV takes the cake with its amazing black levels, great colour reproduction and smooth, curvy looks. It also has the Pixel Plus 2 HD, which is Philips’ proprietary video engine that makes images come to life. The only problem some might face with this TV is that colours may seem a little oversaturated, but that is very subjective. Complete value for your money Sony Bravia 40NX500 – Second Place This TV performs really well, and looks really nice as well. The powerful backlight provides really good contrast and rich, vibrant colours. Even the detail in image reproduction is really good, although the panel is a tad reflective, but the picture quality more than makes up for this flaw. Even the price is right for this TV at Rs. 60,000. Excellent picture quality Samsung LA40C650 – Third Place This TV has some serious specs, such as WiFi adapter support, DLNA and an Ethernet port. It also has pretty good picture quality and is especially great for those who love sports, action movies and gaming, as it also has a response time of 4ms. But the main reason this TV has come 3rd, is because it has some problems playing media over DLNA, mainly the navigation. The price is also a bit steep at Rs. 77,990. Awesome features on this one Here are the technical specifications: Click to enlarge Stay tuned for when we give out the next award for the best 3D TV. |
