6 ways to backup mobile data

Mobile phones have become an integral part of our lives and have successfully replaced several essential attributes and mediums, which we relied upon, earlier. Our smartphones are often stuffed with all the data, be it contacts, calendar jotting down events, reminders, photos, messages and more. Now picture this – you have important client calls to make and you're on your way to work and in an instant your phone is stolen or it’s a rainy day and for some god forbidden reason the phone slips into a puddle, making it redundant forever. Getting a newer, higher-end handset could just be a matter of time, but the data is something that you may have to kiss good bye. Here’s when taking a backup of all that data becomes essential, especially when we are looking at users who find those contact details and messages of utmost importance, let alone photos and videos. The only solution to this is appropriate and timely backup of all your data in a secure place, which can then be easily restored onto your newer devices. This is what we are going to discuss here, some ways to backup that precious, critical data.

Taking backup with e-mail services
E-mail services come pretty handy, while taking mobile backups. Most of us access our e-mail everyday, so backing up mobile data using the varying services is simple. Google and Yahoo! accounts will let you sync your contacts easily, be it Android, iOS, BlackBerry or Windows Phone. Google Mobile sync lets you backup all data from devices, such as iPhone, BlackBerry, several Nokia phones and Windows Phones. While companies like BlackBerry go a step ahead with backup provided through its Enterprise server and also by offering the BlackBerry Protect, which is a free application to automatically back up contacts, text messages, calendar and bookmarks, wirelessly. So, we know why BlackBerry is preferred by the corporate sector.

Online syncing services
Besides e-mail services and BlackBerry’s in-house backup options, users can also opt for some online syncing services, which help you backup the data. Although still debatable, cloud services could be a great way of taking backup of your mobile phones. Mobile giants have introduced their own cloud services, like Apple has iCloud for all its iDevices, Skydrive from Microsoft and Google’s cloud service. RSeven, is an online solution that saves mobile data, like call logs, e-mail, contacts, messages, video, audio, images and calendar online on its secure website. It can even record calls and playback voicemail on the website. It easily backs up all this data when you switch to another phone. Besides, Dropbox (iOS, Android and Blackberry), SugarSync (iOS, Blackberry, Windows, Symbian and Android) and iDrive (Blackberry, Android, iOS) are also great options of securing your data. With a limited storage space initially, you can buy additional space.

SD card and SIM card reader
Saving data on the SD card comes across as one of the simplest and cost effective ways of taking a timely backup of one's data. All contacts can be saved on the SD card and then imported on a different handset. Google popularly uses the .csv format to import and export contacts on Android devices as well as their Gmail service. One can effortlessly back up data on the memory card via Contact settings. There are SIM card readers available, which allow you to backup the SIM data, too. However, SIM memory is limited and you may have to delete some messages frequently.

If you’ve used any of Samsung’s flagships in the past, you’ll be right at home with the new S4. We quite liked the handset during our brief encounter with it a few weeks back and after using it for about a week, we have come to like it even more.
