For the social networker on the go, here a few handsets that make it easy to stay connected.

Social Networking Phones Under Rs. 10,000

The new norm for selecting a smartphone or even one that’s not so ‘smart’, is the Social Networking (SN) prowess one can get from the device. Even though all of these devices may not come preloaded SN apps, those apps are still easily available. But the device still has to be well rounded enough for you to spend good money on, so with that in mind, here are a few handsets that are good options for the avid Social Networker.

Nokia 5233 – Rs. 6,500
The Symbian OS is quite conducive to social networking. Most of the new Nokia devices are pre-equipped with native FB applications as well as connectivity to other networks like Hi5 and MySpace. If there are other networks you use, that aren’t preloaded, the Ovi Store is loaded with all kinds of options to suite your online needs.

Nokia’s 5530 also comes with -
  • 2.9-inch touchscreen display with a 360 x 640 pixel resolution
  • EDGE/GPRS, Wi-Fi
  • Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 2 megapixel
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket
  • FM radio
  • microSD card support
LG Cookie Fresh GS290 – Rs. 7,500
The ‘Cookie’ clan, as I like to call them is a good option for the social networker. LG’s preloaded SN app makes it easy to connect to popular SN sites like Twitter, FB etc. It’s a comfortable device to use and funky enough for the youth segment to look good while using it.

Other features include -
  • 3.0-inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 400 pixel resolution
  • EDGE/GPRS
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket
  • FM radio
  • microSD card support
Samsung Champ – Rs. 3,940
Samsung’s TouchWiz UI is as it is quite handy with it’s widget system so you can access your SN apps right from the desktop without having to go through the menus. It’s one of the cheapest touchscreen devices on the market that carries a heavy branding. The phone also offers connectivity to 7 social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace, Photobucket, Flickr, Friendster, Picasa, and Twitter. It also allows you to upload photos to some of these sites via Samsung Communities. Again if there’s something you don’t see it can be downloaded off of the Samsung Apps app.

The Champ also features -
  • 2.4-inch touchscreen display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution
  • EDGE/GPRS
  • Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP, USB 2.0
  • 1.3 megapixel camera
  • 3.5mm handsfree socket
  • FM radio
  • microSD card support
