A Guide to WoW Jargons

Whether it’s Gutterspeak, Common tongue, Orcish or Elven that you speak, there are a few jargons that you will come across time and time again in the World of Warcraft. To help you decipher them, here’s my list of the most commonly used jargons and their meanings. Read on and it might just help you understand your party mates better, and save you from the embarrassment of sounding 'noobish' (Noob = new/inexperienced player):

LFG/LFM
Meaning – Looking for Group/ Members
Usage – "LFG SunkenTemple; LF1M SunkenTemple"

If you’re in need of a group for an instance or quest, type in 'LFG [and the quest/instance’s name]' in the local chat channel. This makes finding people with similar needs pretty easy, and saves you a lot of time. On the other hand, if you already have a group and need just one or 2 more people, you can type in LF[number]M in your chat channel.

BoE/BoP
Meaning – Bind of Equip/ Bind on Pickup
Usage – "Damn! I wish that sword was BoE :("

Some items that drop in WoW get 'soulbound' to the user when picked up or equipped. If an item is soulbound, no one other than you can use/equip it. So make sure you think twice before looting these items.

AH
Meaning – Auction House
Usage – "2 Stacks of Runecloth on the AH @ 2g (gold) each"

The Auction house is your best friend. As the name suggests, it allows you to put your items on Auction or buy/bid on items you wish to purchase. If you wish to get a good price on items you want to sell, or get some good deals on items you want to buy, the AH is your best bet. You can find one in every major city.

OOM
Meaning – Out of Mana
Usage – "Hold on for a minute… I’m OOM!"

Spellcasters require mana to cast spells. If your healer runs out of mana, he cannot heal you. To ensure that such a situation never occurs, keep an eye out for 'OOM' in your party chat, and always wait for casters to regenerate mana before starting a battle.

FP
Meaning – Flight Path
Usage – "Get FP from the town north of here"

In order to move around quickly in the massive lands of Azeroth, you’ll need to use the aerial route. If that’s what you seek, then you’ll need to get the FP of the town you need to travel to. You can only do this by walking up to the flight master and initiating conversation with him. Make sure you get as many FPs as possible, so that you can spend less time traveling, and more time killing stuff.
