What new gameplay modes will we see in NS2? Will it be possible to jump into the heat of the action without spending time developing your character? (Something like a Team Deathmatch) This is something we wish we did better with the first Natural Selection. It was quite daunting to jump into the Commander role or start out as one of the alien classes your first time online. I don't think we'll have the resources for a proper tutorial so I think we'll have a simpler variant of the game that will give players a more ...gentle...first experience. Due to our scripting system and open attitude towards modding, we are able to support not just game "modes" but totally different game rules. Something like Team Deathmatch could be one of these modes and wouldn't be much work at all to include. And if we don't, the community could add this easily for us. What new weapons/unit types/structures will be available in NS2? Any new gameplay changes we should know about? We don't want to give away too much yet, but there will be additional technology and abilities on both sides. The aliens side will also feature dynamic infestation which will impact how the aliens spawn and take control the map (link). You can be sure NS2 will include the long-awaited flamethrower too; what’s better for burning away infestation? What kind of price tag will the game have? Will it be available only on Steam or will it hit retail as well? Our current plan is that we'll sell it for $20 over Steam. We would love to put it into retail as well, though we probably won't focus on that until after we release on Steam. What kind of environments/levels can we expect in NS2? Will the action ever move outdoor? We thought a lot about bringing the action outdoors and down to Kharaa home planets, but this seemed a bit too drastic of a change. We don't want to spend years making NS2 and we want to make SURE it appeals to our existing audience. We polled our players about this and most people seemed to prefer the claustrophobic indoor environments seen in NS, so we're sticking to that. Maybe for NS3? |
