Mobile Grudge Match: Celkon A200 vs Micromax Superfone Canvas 2 A110

The budget Androids just keep pouring in and the latest addition to the group is the A200 from Celkon. A relatively unheard of brand until now, the company has been advertising its latest A200 dual-core handset quite aggressively, so naturally, we decided to see what the fuss is all about. We were pleasantly surprised to find out in our review that the handset isn’t too bad actually and is right up there with the Karbonn A21 or the Micromax A110. What better way to see which provides a better option than a grudge match, but first, a small recap on what makes the A200 a strong contender in the sub-10K price bracket.

Celkon A200 – Rs.8,500
Unlike the Micromax A110, Celkon has managed to get the aesthetics right as the A200 sports a very HTC Explorer-ish design and thankfully, the branding is highly inconspicuous around the back. So you really can’t tell that it’s not an HTC from afar. The glossy finish is just a complete nightmare, however, and keeping the phone tidy is a real pain in the backside. At 4.3-inches, the handset is extremely manageable in your pocket and the 800 x 480 resolution is enough for decently sharp text and images. The viewing angles and overall screen quality is still pretty average since Celkon hasn’t gone with an IPS display.

A worthy contender

Feature-wise, the A200 and the Micromax A110 share the same SoC from MediaTek, so multimedia capabilities are pretty much identical. The camera is just a 5MP shooter, but you do get HDR mode, a feature that’s missing from the A110.

Next, let’s put both these handsets in the ring and see which one is the better of the two.

A tough fight

The Micromax Superfone Canvas 2 A110  definitely has the better phone here overall, but let’s not disregard the Celkon A200 too quickly. Other than it lacking an IPS display and a larger battery, the handset does have some creature comforts that are sorely missed on the A110. You get an ambient light sensor and hot-swap for the microSD card. The A200 also manages to outperform the A110 slightly in all the benchmarks we ran. And last but not least, it definitely has better aesthetics than the A110. If screen size is of utmost importance, then the choice is obvious, else the A200 makes for a perfectly good alternative and is cheaper.
