The Nike apps are excellent. My favorite fitness app right now is Nike Training Club. With this one can get details on the different types of workouts and what their goal is, for eg. get strong, get lean, get toned, etc. Apart from this the app also allows one to sync their music with it so you can get whatever upbeat (or down tempo, depending on your mood) tracks to play along while you workout.

During a workout routine, there is also a voice based guide detailing what workout you have to do when. The app is well designed and one can learn many new and different exercises by using it. It also can connect to Facebook so one can share their goals and receive encouragement from their Facebook friends. Basically, the exercises featured on this app are meant for core training so please proceed with caution if you are a beginner where working out is concerned. And it's not meant only for women even men can do these exercises.

Endomondo, Mapmymile and Sports Tracker on Android are popular. I've used Endomondo and Sports Tracker.
