Many gamers thought they'd never see the day when Valve released the long-awaited Team Fortress 2. But the game, which had been mired in development hell since it was first announced in the last 1990s, looks like it's finally close to the finishing line. Valve plans to release Team Fortress 2 in the fall along with Half-Life 2: Episode II and Portal. Not only that, but the team-based online multiplayer game features an entirely new design with a comic book-like style.

But Team Fortress 2 didn't always look like it does today. In fact, the game is said to have gone through several different versions over the years. An original version of the game (see the slide show for images) had a look and feel much like Valve's Counter-Strike and the original Team Fortress and Team Fortress Classic. Like the original title, Team Fortress 2 was intended to be based on the Quake II engine. However, Valve later scrapped the designs and decided instead to use its own Source engine. During this period, Valve also drastically changed the look of Team Fortress 2 from a more photo-realistic style to an exaggerated, cartoon design. The video was out on gametrailers.com like last year man! The trailers were out much before Half Life 2 Episode 1. Screenies must have be released eons ago
