Replacement for out of warranty playstation 3 - India

Hello Guys,

I have a playstation 3 that i bought in july 2007. It goes in hung state the moment i play a game disc. I have tried to format the hard drive, reset it to the factory settings but nothing worked. I then spoke to sony india and they said take it to a service centre with the papers and get it a new one at a discounted price. I was quite surprised with the replacement policy cuz it was not written anywhere and a female sitting on the counter was making decisions, who trust me knows nothing on technology or anything else. She was was stupid that she made me wait cuz she got a personal call on her cell phone!!

She told me you get a 70% discount if your PS3 is between 1 and 3 years old, 50% if its between 3 and 4 years old and 30% is more than 4 years. I think she lied cuz she looked at the date of my purchase and in 2 months i will complete 5 years so i think she gave me a bad deal. I think i am eligible for 50% discount!

Also, i get this discount only on the 160GB model and not on the 320GB bundle. If i choose to buy the 320GB bundle then i gotta pay the actual difference which is 3000 bucks!!

does anyone know how to solve the problem with my playstation or can maybe guide me with the policy.

A friend of mine went through the same problem and he was offered the same solution by the sony service center people. He exchanged the ps3 for around 5000bucks and got a ps3 320gb version(In Visakhapatnam).
By the way whats the problem if your ps3 is being exchanged for a new one for just 3000bucks. If i were in your place i would be more than happy to go for it.
