Yea, I searched for the PSP 3004 on the Flipkart without paying attention to the Permanently Discontinued tag. So yes, my colleague was able to find a second hand PSP-3004 for Rs. 5,500 or so. I don't need WiFi (I'll be only using it while travelling). I'm not too keen on buying a used device, especially something like a handheld gaming console that's likely to go through a lot of wear and tear.
The E-1000 also has fixed interlacing issues too, and many claim it has a better battery life, sooooo.. should I just go buy the new E1000? Or still, bad, bad idea?

1.I just want to say that it's tad too expensive, if you can, I reckon you could pay 5 - 6k for a brand new E1004. Otherwise, it is somewhat of a ripoff.
2.About that second hand 3004, if it's in a good condition (check thoroughly) I suppose you can buy it.
Before you do make a purchase, let me give you little heads up about maintaining your PSP -
Mine or Anyone Else's PSP for that matter gets conked primarily because of the way they use it. For instance, I was having this habit of not turning it off properly when going to bed and on one morning it gave me a nasty surprise! the display went kaput. Cost me a whopping 1.4k to get it fixed but apart from that I never had any particularly bothersome technical issue. And the speakers seem to go bad(not too bad though) over the years, happens to everyone (almost at-least), leave "AVLS" enabled as much as possible. Finally, when it comes to the battery life - on the lowest brightness(completely visible when home, daylight - not so much) I get 4-4.5 hours of life and it has been giving me the same for over 4 years, just make sure it goes through a full cycle of charge once it has been completely drained of its power. And just so you know it, a certain friend mine managed to buy "2" (two) PSP's (2004) for merely 2.5k from a considerably less informed friend of his!

Exactly my thoughts - why spend 5.5k on a used PSP when I can spend 500-1000 more and get a new one. I will be using earphones and won't need WiFi anyway, but at least I get peace of mind. The piece I've heard of, is at a shop that sells mobiles and gaming stuff.
Borrowed a friend's PSP 3004 and been spending close to an hour and a half in the bus, gaming each day, it's been fun so far. Will play some more Gran Turismo till the weekend, before I make up my mind :P Thanks blurr~
Yes, I was going to recommend Gran Turismo to be your first game. It doesn't have a campaign mode but the challenge mode should keep you busy.

Gran Turismo is a game for people passionate about cars! the game is more about the experience like getting the turns right(no pun intended), timing your brakes, revving the accelerator when in need etc.you will certainly not enjoy the game if you drive in an aggressive manner just to get the podium finish, you need to drive like a professional(the physics from NFS/Burnout titles differ from this) and in order to do that, spend time in the game's terrific challenge mode (try to get a bronze at-least), you will love the game. While I am not against the GoW series,I am fan myself, Gran Turismo for the PSP is great for those new to the series and the genre in general. Not to mention the game also features 800 cars available for purchase(virtually of course) so you are bound to come across certain personal favorites!
I get where you're coming from blurr. I'm a big simulation fan myself - Richard Burns Rally, rFactor, GTR2 and Live for Speed on the PC on a modest Logitech Momo wheel. And yes, Gran Turismo when it comes to the PS3 and PSP.
No, I don't play simulators at all that is until I came across Gran Turismo! Due to the lack of a controller I don't prefer playing them on my PC. But of course I do love cars in general - Wheeler Dealers fan.
I bought a PSP dis July...PSP e1004 to be specific...
Horrible experience I must say....Good for only casual gaming(poor outdated graphics)..but then again for casual gaming I could do with Angry Birds on my Nokia Phone.
Speakers are bad...dat does not bother me dat mush cause I use headphone mostly(Yaah...Everybody does).
Worst thing is , that it does not hi res videos...sometimes it feels like my Nokia X6 deos a better job at videos that with a smaller screen.
