Lightbulb Does it make sense buying a PSP now?

Ya, the cheap, non-VITA one! I spend more than two hours a bus each day and I was wondering if it made sense buying a PSP, to game and watch videos on it, considering it's got a decent sized screen and it's comfortable to use? What should I know about it, models, pricing?

Yea, gaming on the PSP's okay but I wouldn't recommend the PSP for multimedia (i.e. movies, videos and music); the functionality is the same as your phone, its just that you've got a bigger screen while on the flip side, the speakers aren't good enough; I don't know about the newly available PSP (that's selling for 7k) but my experiences with the 2004 version, the screen isn't bright enough when you're watching videos in daylight. You're better off with your cell phone, you could get a decent android maybe.

Edit: I just checked the various models on flipkart - the E1004 is so not looking good and its the only one available.
    1.No Wifi support.
2.No component AV port, which means that you can't plug the PSP to your TV :\

On another note, I've heard (but never have seen) that the 3004 version has a better LCD display, if you're still interested in getting a PSP you might want to have a look into it. There might be stores out there who are still selling the console.

Avoid the new PSP, if that's all you are getting. Better invest in a new android, much better media capabilities. Though if you can get the PSP 3004, which is officially off the market, grab it.

Every complain Blurr has with the PSP is resolved with the PSP 3004, and the new PSP E1004 is a lame excuse for an upgrade to the line. No wonder it's selling at such a low price! Sony is sure taking a lot of risks, with the pricey Vita and watered down PSP.

Low price? 7k is not worth it if you ask me.
I dare say this Zapak Game Box Gaming Console | Gaming Console | Flipkart.com is a much better deal than the E1004.
+ It supports GBA Roms (I have had as much fun from a GBA game as much as any PSP game, if not better)
    + the usual multimedia support.

Not big on gaming with controls placed on a touchscreen. That's the reason for thinking PSP.

^I can understand that, if morpheus's claims on the 3004 are true, you might as well buy it. You can find one in gray markets if not on retail.

Please buy PSP 3000. It has a big game list to play and cheaper then VITA. I myself use it and its great fun. You can get one at cheapest rate at Lamington Road.

I read an article on GameSpot, here's the link:

    Sony PSP-3000 Hands-On - GameSpot.com

I did send you this very link previously, when we had the same discussion. I based my view on this.

As for the Zapak's console, it's good that it supports GBA ROMs, but I guess that's about it. I mean it's not a mainstream console and the media support list isn't that great either. No MKV or DivX (definitely a negative for me), which means I have to convert a lot of my videos.

And yeah, even I think 7k is not worth the new PSP, but it's still comparatively lower than the original PSP, which is where most of the people go wrong. Plus Sony's pushing this on TV ads, which means that most people will end up buying this new downgraded PSP.

^I totally forgot about that. Anyways you'll have to convert the videos even if you own a PSP, although converters(specifically for the portable) are widely available so it won't be an issue.
