What plasma TV to Buy?
Hey guys
I am thinking of buying a plasma TV.
But not sure which one i should buy.
I saw the LG 42" seems okay and the price has also come down.about 1.1
But i was told that LG is not very reliable and gives problems after a few months.
Since it is an expensive item i do not want to rush into it.
I was told that Hitachi / panasonic make the best plasma TV's
I found out Hitachi has one model for 1.3 and another for 1.7
is extra price justified?
Im totally confused
pls help.
if u have bought the LG plasma please tell me ur experience.
thanks

dont buy a plasma tv , bro , picture quality may be gr8 , but indian climatic conditions play havoc on the plasma panels !! Within a year most of them give problems !! also all the damn tvs are same !! all plasma panels and lcd panels are made in a huge factory in China by sharp company !! , its the after sales and build quality that matters most of these companies make them in China , with very poor quality control
Buy an LCD tv , picture quality is not so good , but does come upto atleast 85% of an plasma tv , is cheaper and has a much longer life ! check lcd tvs from samsung , Hitachi , onida , etc, but dont go for LG !!
Plasma tv is overhyped i think !! its a useless technology , lcds rule the day , and 3d projection is round the corner , so no use buying an Plasma tv

for home theatre viewing plasma is the better option :
Size: Both LCD TVs and plasma TVs are thin as you could hope for.
In screen size plasmas usually run larger though don’t usually come in smaller sizes, which is sometimes needed.
Viewing Angle: Plasma have a wider viewing angle.
Life Span: Both have good lifespan.
Issues: Plasma sometimes suffer from “burn in effect. LCD TVs are sometimes susceptible to a delay that causes the outline of figures or objects to appear jagged.
Color: LCD TVs are renowned for a sharp picture and vibrant color. Plasma TVs are known for a wide range of colors and accurate color reproduction. lcds have some 12 billion colours ! plasmas have some 500 billion colors.
Brightness: LCD TVs are said to do slightly better in bright-light conditions.
Black Levels: Plasma TVs generally produce very black blacks whereas an LCD TV will produce a very dark charcoal gray.
Contrast Levels: Plasma TVs, technically, are said to have greatercontrast levels.
Cost: Prices for both types of TVs are decreasing rapidly.
esp when u watch dark dvd or vcd plasma can kick lcds arse anyday !!!
my experience !

they may kick arse anyday bro , but after a year or so , u'll be kicking your Plasma's ass !! i said for indian conditions -- plasma is very suspectible to fluctuations in temp. like in India , also power supply in india is not so stable too
Dont worry you'll be seeing "spotting" or colour distortions in a year
plasma is soon going to be redundent man , Projection and short throw projectors are developing so rapidly that the very concept of moaunting a panel on a wall is going to pahse out soon
Fact remains -- u want a an exellent tv with excellent picture quality , which will most probably have a short life --plasma tv
And all round performer -- LCD tv -- 40" is best

sid is 100% correct...LCD is better overall compared to the plasma's...plasma's have shorter life span than the lcd's...plasma is a dying technology as its cons simply outweigh its pros

Since I use currently a Plasma and also used a LCD TV.I would also like to tell u something
I have a 42" Plasma HDTV.
And I used to have a 32" LCD HDTV.
Both 720p HDTV's.
+ Points of LCD.
More Life.
No Maintaince Cost.
Cheap.
More higher resolution.
- Ponits of LCD
Can't produce deep dark colour.
Not good contrast due to not showing Black properlly.
Really less viewing angles(i mean, really).
+Points of Plasma.
Bettter Quality.
More(& better) Constrast Ration.
More viewing angles (I will say 170 degree)
- Ponits of Plasma
More expensive
Less life (60000 hours mostly)
Expensive
Overall.
Plasma TV's are still Considered Better than LCD Since Quality matters at last and due to less viewing angles and contrast quality LCD's produce more fuggy picture Conpared to Crisp Picture Quality on Plasma TV's.
Other than that U have to choose what to buy.
I am not sure how voltage effects TV's but I think Plasma TV's will be more affected by Voltage than LCD's.
