Desktop. On other though how big is your hostel room?
indeed. I have my own reasons. I had no other choice. Not crazy to spend 50k on a pseudo-gaming laptop when I get a full blown awesome desktop at that price.Originally Posted by erif

I Second Sathya , desktop will be "Desktop" which means that it'll remain at least in your room. Laptop ,being portable one might end up searching for it in the whole hostel. So
@anirban.pro,
If you still prefer a lappy for gaming get these
1) 7200 rpm HDD
2) Kensington Lock
3) Laptop with lock port.
At the end of the day , i prefer a desktop except for long power cuts.
Take ur desktop. Few tips:
BTW, if this ur 1st year in college, I strongly suggest u against taking it to hostel.Code:1)Buy a good quality headphones. 2)Put the Power-on BIOS password, if u don't wanna anybody else to use it. 3)Disable all USB ports and DVD/CD drives(so that others can't install or put anything without ur permission). 4)Have only admin account, which is password protected for the same reason. 5)Also take a good look if u have sufficient place for ur DVDs/CDs and accesories.
Thanks guys. For the tips. Thats a lot of food for thought.
this is my 1st year, but we do have a seperate hostel. Anyways I'm really missing gaming.
Get PC man
Your College hostel will pay for your electricity bill anyways, so UTILIZE IT.Get a 22" CRT monitor :D
Laptop, err. There is always a possibility that your seniors/warden/friends will want to BORROW it. And in a hostel with so many ppl despo for PC will EYE your baby. So get ready to face lotsa attention. And since you will be gaming, others will ALSO want to game. Some may even buy their own gamepad for some FIFA match up.(i have seen such despo ppl)
However laptop gaming is more convenient.Back then when i was in SRCC hostel, guys with laptops will go to guys with PC and play Counterstrike matches in their room.
AS for Kensington Laptop Locks, one guy's laptop got stolen even when locked. Guess how? The laptop was tethered to his study table. The thief sawed off the leg of the TABLE and took the Laptop. We suspected a Hostel staff.
So best protection, Keep a low profile, and always lock ur Laptop to some METAL bars or keep it in your Suitcase ALL THE TIME. PPl may call u paranoid, but that's a price to pay for protection!
oct 18th-december 13th. Houston- I think we have a temporal disturbance here :P.
