    Travel zoom under 20k

    Hello all,
this is my first post in this forum group . I already own A Sony CyberShot DSC-S40 and A Sony CX-130/B HD hanycam.
Now i plan to buy a compact travel zoom a the bridge zooms are too bulky for me to handle. I have narrowed a few modesl such as Panasonic SZ7 & TZ30; Sony WX150, HX10V, HX20V, Canon SX240HS/SX260HS and Nikon S9300... to name a few .

I want opinons and suggestion (pros. and Cons.) from all

    thank u,

    subhayu

Hi Subhayu, having played around with the Sony HX20V and the Canon SX260HS, I can say that the Sony HX20V would be a good choice.

    Sony HX20V
It is the successor to the HX9V which was bay far one of the best compact cameras of 2011. The brand have not held back any punches and added a range of features to build up on it.
The only issue that may be there is that you may find images appearing too vibrant and a bit unnatural. This may not be a bad thing and if you like pictures that appear vibrant and stand out, then you will enjoy using this camera.

    Canon SX260HS
This model is amazing and there is nothing really to complain about where outdoor images are concerned. However, in low lit areas, you may tend to find that there is a lot of image noise which can put you off. It did to me at least.

Both options are really easy to use though and if you're familiar with the interface of the Sony, then the HX20V will be easier to handle with there being no learning curve. On the other hand, Canon cameras are really easy to use as well and getting used to shooting in different modes is a cinch. If I was in your position, looking at market trends and such, I would opt for the Sony as it is one of the hottest selling models in India, even more than the ones from Canon or Nikon and it would be a safe bet. Or else, you can read this post here.

HX20 V is a really nice camera. But I found the screen little too vibrant. Sometimes the pics shown on the camera screen will look different than the original one shown on a properly calibrated monitor .

Between the Canon PowerShot SX240 HS, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ30 and Sony Cyber-shot HX20V, I would have gone in with the Sony HX20V.
All the three cameras offer almost similar optics - 20x optical zoom with a focal length of 25 - 500 mm - Panasonic is a tad wider at 24 mm
However the aperture of Sony HX20V is the largest at both tele and wide ends - F3.2 - F5.8. Canon and Panasonic are - F3.5-F6.8 and F3.3-F6.4 respectively.
So, Sony should be a better performer in low light.

Also the LCD pixel density of the HX20V is higher: 921k dots v/s 460k dots in Canon and Panasonic.

Add to this features such as Sweep Panorama, 105 MB of built-in storage, strong flash, plenty of shooting modes, intuitive user interface and great image quality.
These make Sony HX20V a more compelling buy.
