Confused between Nikon D5100 or Cannon 550 D; Which one to go for?

Hi Guys,

I m planning to buy a DSLR and really confused between Nikon D5100 and cannon 550 D. both seems to be equal in specs and there is not much price deference as well. can you please help me out.

If you're looking towards only photography rather than Videos, look towards D5100. But honestly, take a look at 600D if you want swivel screen+ wireless flash inbuilt or 650D for all that+ faster AF.

Also remember Nikon lenses are cheaper than Canon. I own a canon though.
Would recommend to try out both companies camera before buying

One thing I don't like about Nikon D5100 is,it does not have a Focus Motor in the body.It might be a non issue but then it is a issue for me.I would go with the 550D or the 600D,somehow I always found Canon's images(punchier,sharper) better than a Nikon's (highly debatable!)

As anmol said Focus Motor is the major issue with D5100. I own a 550D and am very pleased with what it offers.

But, if you ask me whether to choose 550D or 600D, I definitely would suggest 550D, since 600D isnt much different from 550D except for a few minor additions (this is very subjective, and I find those additions to be minor).

If you are looking to buy a 5100, be careful while choosing the lenses and make sure that they have AF motor in them.

The price difference between Canon EOS 550D and EOS 600D is massive (Rs 16,000). I'd rather invest in a an additional lens and a few accessories for the difference. I find Nikon cameras are better built. They feel more rugged. I've used canon cameras for more than a decade and I'm so used to the user interface and comfort that I can't think of anything else.

Canons Build quality barring 600 and 650 D is questionable ,indeed. The 1100D is the worst the company could do.

Agreed, even the feel of the EOS 1000D is pathetic. Feels like you're holding a chunk of cheap plastic. The performance you get for the price is impressive though

hey freind, i already used canon 550D & it is good. you have to buy a good lens for better picture. price is little bit high but the product is too much usefull & best i think. you just need to change lens to take professional picture.

I have cannon 550 D,it's is a nice model with great lens & good quality picture
