[rant] What is Nokia thinking - the 808 PureView launch .. err crawl

I am keenly awaiting the launch of Nokia 808 PureView. I have an ageing 6220 Classic at present with a superb 5 MP CarlZeiss AutoFocus camera.

Initially they launched it in MWC 2012 but announced it will be available by May 2012. Oh, how I prayed that they had learnt lessons from past delays etc.
Nothing concrete was however forthcoming anytime. Then they launched some site with countdown which everyone thought was to the launch. It does not appear to be so from reports around the web.
Even now there is no date formally announced regarding its launch from Nokia. Lot of speculation. Some websites eg. BuyThePrice have given a date but that just seems to be a ruse to gather bookings.

Really disillusioned by the lack of commitment from Nokia.

yeah me too really annoyed first of all they should thank us for waiting for a nokia symbian :P device in this droid/ios era just because of its camera ! - if it were a lumia then they would have been spot on with the launch ! All marketing and efforts from nokia nowadays are really concentrated towards their wp line up so no wonder why 808 is getting 'intentionaly' delayed

Its not exactly their strong point.Pure View 808 is more like a demo or an experiment if you ask me ,they are going to release Lumia phones later with the same technology.
Nokia 808 IMO will only interest those fanboys who adore nokia and Symbian .

very true ! symbian is almost near its dead who knows maybe 808 is its last laugh !

Even when Symbian dies, I do not think the features that are now part of it already will ever die. For eg. Nokia will not release an update that will format and brick my Symbian phone so that I can no longer use it.

I may not get any more interesting software for it and there might not be further updates.

As long as I get what is advertised, I am happy. That is all I want now.

Windows Phone right now lacks features like mass storage mode and needs crap like Zune software to manage and many other things. I also do not like to live in jails.

Agree. WP is much more restrictive. Apps are costly (in Android and iOS too though) compared to Symbian. They chose Symbian for PureView because Symbian is much more flexible. And WP is still not capable for such experiments. They say, it will come to WP, but who know when!
Some official events' papers mentioned, 808 will start shipping in mid June, 2012.

So finally the 808 PureView is shipping. Good news.
It is shipping at a high 32+ grands. Bad news.

Supplies too seem to be limited/erratic following online dealers.
Local Nokia official retailer does not have any information on when will he get any stocks.

I was hoping for a psychological sub 30 grand launch price eg. 29,990 and expecting it to stabilize around 27.5 after sometime probably coming down to 25 after about 3 - 6 months.

It is a good deal at <30 grands and would be a steal at 25.
