    Question Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 & W5660 clone

    Hi all,

I spend a lot of time in the Philipines and the UK. Previously I have used my own UK mobile (with great expense) abroad, but recently I brough two clone phones, that I don't mind if they get lost or stolen when I am working abroad.

These are Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 WIFI TV (S III) & Samsung W5660 WIFI TV (both are clones).

They both have an Android OS, but are different versions and the W5660 has a few minor (and anoying) issues. So, I would like to update them both to the same OS, Android, Jellybean or whatever OS that makes the two phones identical in use and stable. Is this possible, if so how do I do it?

I have looked at the real software updates for the non-clone phones but obviously it won't work with a clone phone

Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

YES, Thats basically it, but in some areas of the Philipines, you can not see a genuine phone for love nor money. And for between 2500 and 3000 Pesos each (about 12-20quid UK) you don't care if it gets lost, stolen or broken.

I am a Techie in my own righ, but on PCs/Laptops, networks etc, and these clones are not complete knock offs. By playing around with them I have just found out the I9300 is a factory re-work of a Nokia (Model as yet unknown), recased as a Samsung I9300 and the other IS a real Samsung W5660, again a factory rework, but to get around a probable fault it has had a non-standard / non-Samsung Android OS put on it, probably to cut off features that were not working as they should??

Both are dual sim, have WiFi & TV, both work as is, but the swipe feture on the W5600 is iffy, sometimes works, sometimes not. Also when you change the ring tone, it changes back after a few munites to one you can hardly hear??

I think if I was able to reload them to a standard version of say "Share" Android or maybe Jellybean or something, they would be easier to use, but not having the knowledge to do it, I am here in hope that a Guru on here may be able to shed a bit of light on how to do it ;)

The main reason behind it is to make them the same and compatable (for sharing contacts, photos etc) as they seem to store them differently, not like my UK HTC and Nokia N810 do. Though different OS's they use the same format for contacts, numbers music, vids and pictures. I would also mean that both my wife and I can use either phone without hunting for icons/features etc.

Years back in the early days of mobiles, I used to unlock Nokia's and recode the phones to accept foriegn SIMs/Networks, you don't have to do that now of course, not with 3g/4g and the networks becoming more compatable etc.

If it is not possible to change these phone's OS, then I will just put up with it till they die, get lost or stolen or broken and hunt ebay for cheap genuine phones to use when working abroad. But I think there must be a way of reloading a different OS like you can with Jellybean.

Cheers all and thanks for your interest in this post
