Intel Dual core and Core 2 Duo are quite different than processors having HT (Hyperthreading).
The "core" of the processor is its processing element which has an ALU (arithmetic Logic Unit and related registers). Multicore processors have multiple processing elements integrated into one processor dice. They share most of the resources but may however have their own cache.
This results in having two fully functional processing elements which can work on independant threads.

In contrast, HT or Hyperthreading is an Intel technology which is basically a proprietary name for SMP or simultaneous multithreading. In this technology, the OS is "fooled" into thinking that there are multiple processing elements and hence allocates more than one process to run simultaneously. This results in a more efficient execution environment. This is done by replicating the registers that store the "state" on the dice... and when there is a stall or some other wait state, the execution of the other process begins immediately. This minimises overhead of copying stuff into registers everytime a task is serviced.

Hope this rather cryptic explanation helps.. :D

    DSL 502T hangs!

I got a DLink DSL 502T & I got a Triband night untld. plan. I keep it on at nights for about 8 hrs. Before it used to be fine, all the indicator lights use to indicate normal functionality. However since the past month it HANGS after 2 to 5 hrs of being on. By "HANG" i mean the status indicator stops blinking & remains ON. The ADSL indicator shuts off & obviously I lose my net connectivity. Its really irritating to get up in the morn & find out tht i left the PC on the entire night for nothing.
    HELP!

well no I didn't coz i dont want to lose the MTNL triband settings. There seem to be a lot of stuff, can u tell me the key setting values that I should note down before resetting it to factory setting.
Also before some suggests power spike prob, i got an UPS.
