Gaming Rig Build
I have 2 Queries that I'm gonna post in one.
1. What is your MAX budget - 15-20k
2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? Yes
3. What is the purpose of the computer? Gaming
4. Planning to overclock? No (Sometimes later may be)
5. Which OS are you planning to use? Win 7 32-bit
6. How much hard drive space is needed - 500gb
7. What resolution will the screen run at - 1024x768 Now (19" monitor later)
8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? - 6
9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler - assembler
10. When are you planning to buy the system? ASAP
11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations - No
12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig - Monitor, Keyboard Mouse & I've a Navtech ATX-450watt..Will that work?
13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states - New Delhi
14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary - I was just looking at benchmarks or 9800 gtx & ati 5670, So I like 5670 but what I wanna know is the bus width in ATI 5670 is 128 bit & in Nvidia 9800 gtx is 256 bit! Does that really matter?? & how much? :geek:
& I was thinking of Gigabyte G-41 Combo motherboard with c2d 2.93ghz. ATI 5670 works on this one or need a Separate Mobo & Proc???

Re: Graphic Card Price
Mostly, No. You will have to purchase a new PSU. If you increase your budget by 2K, you can get a decent rig. But it will be better if you follow this template.

Re: Average Gaming Rig Build?
Go for a PSU first and then think about assembling the rig.

Re: Average Gaming Rig Build?
Intel dual core E5400 3.4k
Gigabyte G41 ES2L 2.9k
2 GB DDR2 800Mhz Mhz 2.2k
Corsair CX400W 2.6k
MSI 4850 7k(in case u want to max out all settings at your resolution)
OR
MSI 5670 6k
OR
MSI GTS 250 7.2k
Total -18.1k(with the 4850) 17.1k(with the 5670) and 18.3k(with the GTS 250) .
I must be losing my touch :?

Re: Average Gaming Rig Build?
^Dual Core and not Core 2 Duo.
DDR2 800MHz not 1333MHz
@OP : GTS 250 would be a better option than 4850 and 5670.
Its cost 6.5-7k

Not much here. See it this ways - 128-bit DDR5 is just about equal to 256-bit DDR3 in terms of performance.

As long as one has a PCI-Express slot on the mobo (which the G41 would have), every ATI/Nvidia card would run on it (provided the card is a PCI-E and not AGP/PCI).
BTW, My suggestion,
AMD Athlon II X3 440 - 3.9k
Biostar A785GE - 3.2k
2x2GB DDR2 800MHz - 4.4k
Corsair CX400 - 2.8k (Yes this 400W PSU will be enough - do not judge PSU on the rated wattage, there are other factors too)
HD 5670 512MB DDR5 - 5.5k
Total - 19.8k
