    Overclocking Problem.

    Hi everyone,

I have a problem overclockin my system. 1st of all here r my specs

    intel core2 duo e6300
    msi p965 platinum
    kingston kvr 667 1gb x1
    asus en7600gt
    seagate 320gb sata2
    samsung dvdrw 18x

plus there's a 56k modem that i fished from my old p3 500mhz machine which is abt 3-5 yrs old nw.

    here's ma prob.

w/the ram timings set to 5-5-5-15 & running on auto (667 Ram) i can o'c d pc til i reach abt 840-850 mhz Ram. as i cn remember its abt 330 fsb.
nw after i switch to 533 ram & same timings, i stil only cn go to fsb 330 around. i.e 2.24ghz as i cn remember.

once i go over that mark, the system hangs on me. i didnt change voltages @ any time cos i'm a bit new to this scene & cos i'm a bit scared to.

many reviews has told that this wud go easily to 360 fsb & thats d amount dat i'm hopin 2 hit. cos i aint a serous o'cer. jst wanna get sumtin outta ma pc.

pls tel me y does this happen. any comments & suggestions r welcome. tks fellas.

First of all make sure that you have the latest BIOS installed.

Next try increasing the PCI-E Frequency to 110MHz.Keep the RAM at 533MHz and increase the FSB to about 330 and then increase in 5-10 MHz increments and also keep a log on the Temperature by using CoreTemp ( http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/ )

Use a Application like CPU Burn or SuperPI to stress out the CPU and see its temp at full load. The Temperature at Full Load should not go above 55c.

Hmm don't set the RAM clock to auto, set it to 533 MHz also make 100% sure that you are using the latest BOIS version !

i tried again bro. here's wot i did n it stil hangs.

i set d timings to 4-4-4-12, pcie 110, Speed step off, spred spectrum off, ram @ 533,
it goes up2 fsb 335 n once i hit fsb 340, it hangs on bios intialization (i've dat 4 led system ;-D). it booted once and hanged @ xp boot up (saw d os selection menu come). after that hangs on bios ini:.

& i've got d latest ver i.e bios ver 1.2. is it cos my ram's a kvr not a performance model?

i only want 2 pass d 2.4G mark. gives a gd enuf performance then.

anywys tks vry much 4 yr time tammy_y

    hi der,

i tried again. dis time i set d ram to 5-5-5-15, pcie 110, ram @533. it went up2 339 mark & as soon as it hits d 340fsb mark. the sytem hangs.

this time i checked d l.e.d's n most of the times it gave cpu initialization & twice on vga ini.

i also removed dat modem i had. seems lik sumtin else's givin me the prob. didnt mess w/d voltages though.

i ran pcmark05 full test wich takes abt 35mis @ 335 n it worked wel didnt hang. it gav me sum 60xx odd marks on it. then @ 339 i ran only d cpu test. W/msi's pc alert 4 on the system hanged @ the last cpu test by then d cpu heat was @ 48c. d test completed after i removed it.

    any suggestions?

In that case thats the Limit of your Motherboard ! You just cannot OC any more that that.If you want real Overclocking then get a ASUS P5B Deluxe.

Also you can OC through Windows using tools like Clockgen.

Anyways all hope is not lost the Stability of the Mobo increases with newer BIOS updates. So watch out for some updates for your Motherboard.

    hi tammy_y,

tks vry much 4 yr support. it maybe my max but i'm happy w/it. also i'm not hopin o/c d machine nw. cos i tested d pc w/d s/ws u told earlier. d system is vry stable though the prob is d heat, @ ful load it heats up2 60c.

so i tried @ 300fsb which rise up2 55c. so til i get a gd cooler & til my house resonovations get over, i'l stik @ stock spd.

I thank u vry much for your time again, its been nice knowin u. t.c
