Question Need a very basic PC

    1. What is your MAX budget? 18k

    2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why? Yes

    3. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
For my family ( I already have a laptop for my needs). Will be used only for surfing the net, watch some videos, download via torrents, Documents etc

    4. Planning to overclock? No

    5. Which OS are you planning to use? Win 7

    6. How much hard drive space is needed? 500GB

    7. What resolution will the screen run at? 720p

    8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest) 7

    9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler? Built twice when I was in college. Working now.

    10. When are you planning to buy the system? Within this month.

    11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations? Option for installing a GFX card in the future will be useful.

    12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention. Speakers, Keyboard, Mouse (Have those)

    13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states? Guwahati, Assam, Yes

    14. Mention any other points if deemed necessary At least 4GB RAM.

    Okay.

    CPU:
Intel Dual Core G620 [Available on Flipcart for Rs. 3339]
Motherboard: Asus P8H61-M-LX [Available on Flipcart for Rs. 3048]
Memory: Corsair 4 GB (1333MHz) [Available on Flipcart for Rs. 1216]
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB [Available on Flipcart for Rs. 5565]
Power Supply: Corsair CX430 [Available on Flipcart for Rs. 2536]
Case: Cooler Master Elite 310 [Available on Flipcart for Rs. 1826]

Totaled to Rs. 17530 w/o monitor

This'll give you a fairly well-balanced general purpose rig, with room for upgrades. You can grab a better processor (i3, i5, i7) in the future, add in another stick of RAM and run em' in dual channel mode or even slip in a videocard whenever you want.

    Good luck!

    Decent :nods:

But: Seasonic 400W SS-400-ES 80+ Bronze Certification Power Supply -

This is a more efficient PSU.

Or: FSP SAGA II 500 500W Power Supply - SAGA II 500 by: FSP - TechShop.in More wattage so less likely that you'll have to change a PSU.

    AMD Alternative:

AMD ATHLON II X2 260 3.2 Ghz Processor Rs 3250
Asus M5A78L-M LX OR GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-S2P Rs 2650

    edit:

Or AMD Athlon II X3 445 Rs 3700
    http://www.smcinternational.in/index...mart&Itemid=75

performance wise better than the dual core Intel Dual Core G620

or if you just want an uber-basic donkey machine that runs basic programs like work runs 24x7 and uses very little electricity but is utterly useless & crap everywhere else (even performance wise)
    go for
    AMD SEMPRON 145 Rs 1900

Intel Dual Core G620 vs AMD Athlon X3 445

Really? I don't see anything conclusive that points to the AMD processor being better at anything.

1: The AMD processor is better at video encoding and processes which need a 3rd core to speed things up...
also check out the overall scores at:
PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs

2: Just because an intel processor has is better than one of the AMD processors doesnt mean they are better than all...
Both have their pros & cons and I have simply listed it out so the OP can choose for him/herself

    3. the AMD processors do offer better upgrade options & is more future proof due to the AM3+ socket...

    4. Please keep AMD vs Intel arguments to yourself or to someone who cares this is the OPs choice here...

IMHO what he needs is a donkey machine that works non-stop and one that he can upgrade when he wants to here a Sempron which is LESS powerful & much more cheaper is a better alternative...

edit: also all 3 of the processor I listed have lower power consumption as per your link.

The G620 is neck to neck with the AMD X3 at most tasks, if not better. Also, PassMark is only one benchmark suite.
AnandTech has a complete list of benchmarks, check them out.

2: Just because an intel processor has is better than one of the AMD processors doesnt mean they are better than all...
When did I ever say something like that?

    3. the AMD processors do offer better upgrade options & is more future proof due to the AM3+ socket...
Nope. The LGA1155 Socket offers better performance/upgrade. Do I need to elaborate? Please, do tell me.

    4. Please keep AMD vs Intel arguments to yourself or to someone who cares this is the OPs choice here...
    -yawn-

When did I start an argument?

Wrong. The G620 consumes lesser power than both the X2 & X3 processors

    *********

READ what I said earlier, AGAIN.

You seem to have misread the whole thing.

1.intel g620 will be better option, considering its future proof nature.
2.and how often OP will be transcoding videos, and even if he do,he will not see any visible difference between the two.
