Want to assemble a Desktop for Gaming and SAP application Under ~40k

    1. What is your MAX budget? 40K, +/- 2K
    2. Are you open to alternate ideas/products giving similar better performance but offering more VFM/ sellers? If not- why? Yes, but coz of SAP intel preffered
    3. What is the purpose of the computer? (Note: If you are planning to say multimedia, you will have to be more specific as all types of systems are capable of doing that)
First SAP application for testing and learning and second but not least will be used for Gaming like Assassins Creed, God of War, Crysis, Batman
    4. Planning to overclock? Interested but not a priority
    5. Which OS are you planning to use?Win 7 Home Premium/ XP
    6. How much hard drive space is needed?500 gb latter add more
    7. What resolution will the screen run at?Not sure but HD will be preffered
    8. How would you rate your hardware knowledge from the count of 1-10? (1 being the lowest, 5 being you are somewhat in sync with the current performers and 10 being the highest)6
    9. Have you ever built a desktop before or will this be done by an assembler? Many during 2004-2006, few days back disassembled and re-assembled my DV6 laptop
    10. When are you planning to buy the system? Two weeks
    11. Are you one of the types looking out for "future proof" configurations?sure but can upgrade later
    12. Are there going to be any components that you don't want to include in this new rig? If yes, do mention. Not need a high end display...after few months will connect it to a HD TV, games will be played using XBOX controller
    13. Which city do you live in and are you open to buying from shops from other city/states?Bangalore..and open to buy it online from ITDepot etc.
    14. Mention any other points if deemed necessaryGonna assemble it for my best friend. he want a small cabinet..hard to make him increase his budget..somehow will convince him not to go for Micro ATX form factor...

Err... because of SAP Intel is preferred?

CPU: AMD Phenom II - X4 970 [RS. 7643 ON FLIPKART] [BENCHMARKS]
Motherboard: Asus M5A78L-M LX [RS. 2727 ON FLIPKART] [PRODUCT PAGE]
Memory: Corsair 4 GB [RS. 1216 ON FLIPKART]
Memory: Corsair 4 GB [RS. 1216 ON FLIPKART]
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1 TB [RS. 5321 ON FLIPKART]
Videocard: Sapphire AMD/ATI Radeon HD 6850 [RS. 9699 ON FLIPKART] [BENCHMARKS]
Power Supply: Seasonic S12II-430 [RS. 3381 ON FLIPKART] [REVIEW]
Case: Cooler Master Elite 370 [RS. 2741 ON FLIPKART] [REVIEW]

Totaled to Rs. 33944 w/o Monitor

The quad-core processor will keep you in for a year or two. Paired it with 8-gigs of RAM, you really don't need any more. Bumped the storage space to a terabyte because it was only an additional thousand bucks.

I chose the HD 6850. It's an awesome bang for buck card and is capable of executing top-notch visuals at high resolutions.

Powered by a trusty Seasonic unit and wrapped-up inside the Elite 370.

Alternatively, you could always go for an Intel i3 on a H61 board.

    Good Luck.

P.S: I know what SAP is.

Thanks for your help and suggestion Archer.

I never meant to say that you or anyone else wont know about SAP.

Few of my friends have had faced issue with SAP or some other application on AMD few year backs; thats the only base for his (my friends) inhibition for choosing AMD. Anyways per your suggestion of an AMD 4 cores will convince him to go for this.

What your view about going for a G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 ram...(I know price is an issue but i can invest 1-2k from my pocket..anyways once he goes for his onsite assignment I will be using it...;)..:P..:D...)

Do we really need 8Gb of ram..(not trying to save cost here...just wanna know more.. my 8 Gb of ram in my laptop is hardly being used?)

since we are left with 6-8 K..it would be great if you can also suggest a decent monitor along-with a keyboard mouse combination (should i go for wireless..although it wont be good for gaming)

plz also suggest whether i use the thermal paste which come with the peripherals or should i use the Arctic Silver Ceramique2 (i have it with me)

will go to check the prices this sunday to the local market.

Once again thanks or your help

    my suggestion:
    intel core i5 2300 8.9k
    gigabyte h61m-ds2 4k
    corsair vengeance ddr3 4gb 1600mhz 1.5k
    sapphire hd 6850 9k
    logitech g400 gaming mouse+ keyboard 2k
nzxt gamma 2.7k / coller master elite 310 ~1.8k(if you want a small cabby)
    corsair cx500w 3.1k
    samsung dvd writer 1k
    seagate barracude 1tb 5k
    total 37k/36k

    1.AFAIK,SAP is a server/business software.so,most probably,it will be benefited with more cores.that is why i included a i5.
2.You will also get a gaming mouse and a dvd writer with this rig.
3.nzxt gamma is very roomy cabinet,if you want a big cabby.
4.4gb is enough for all games around here.If you ever feel it is not enough you can always add more.
5.with left 6k(provided you total budget is 42k)you can get a 20" monitor. i have to do some gooling before i can sugget some monitors to you.

P.S.:I have never used/seen SAP software.I have only read about it on net.so,correct me if i am wrong about it.

i5 2300 is a quad core not 5 cores as name suggests...

    check: Intel® Core

how intel has named its processors:
    i3 = 2 cores
    i5 = 4 cores
    i7 = 4 cores but better performance than i5

    Where did he say otherwise?

It was nice of you to give us that lil' insight, but I'm pretty sure just about everyone knows already.

@alids:with "more core" i meant more than 2(2 is minimum which current processors have).
    thanks for pointing it out.

it seems there is a support/compatibility issue between motherboard and processor.
CPU-Upgrade: ASUS M5A78L-M LX processor support

need help..will be going for this processor only...i also figured that the mentioned board support 1600MHz ram but not the processor (basis) the spec mentioned on flipkart.

plz help gonna assemble in few days

Woops. Sorry 'bout that, I didn't notice.

I never meant to say that you or anyone else wont know about SAP
Uh.. I didn't mean it that way. It was a pointless statement and didn't deserve any attention.
    Ignore it.

Few of my friends have had faced issue with SAP or some other application on AMD few year backs; thats the only base for his (my friends) inhibition for choosing AMD. Anyways per your suggestion of an AMD 4 cores will convince him to go for this.
That's odd. I remember there being some sort-of issue with the 2nd generation Intel processors. Kind-of opposite :P

What your view about going for a G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3 ram...(I know price is an issue but i can invest 1-2k from my pocket..anyways once he goes for his onsite assignment I will be using it...;)..:P..:D...)
I seriously doubt that there will be much of a difference between the two.

Do we really need 8Gb of ram..(not trying to save cost here...just wanna know more.. my 8 Gb of ram in my laptop is hardly being used?)
You never know when you'll need it. It's quite cheap, so...

since we are left with 6-8 K..it would be great if you can also suggest a decent monitor along-with a keyboard mouse combination (should i go for wireless..although it wont be good for gaming)
    Ask Avtar / Extreme Gamer.

plz also suggest whether i use the thermal paste which come with the peripherals or should i use the Arctic Silver Ceramique2 (i have it with me)
Meh. I just stick to using the pre-applied thermal compound.
    Ask around, though.
