^ its pointless getting a new board unless he has/wants to get a new proxy as well... the e7300 is a lga 775 processor, and his current board doesnt support DDR3

a 4gb ddr3 ram stick these days costs as much as a 2gb ddr2 stick these days and a lot of dealers arent sure wether to get rid of stocks at lower price or to take a risk and wait and sell at higher to those who dont want to spend on a new board/proccy...

if you want to change the board and/or can get a hold of cheap DDR2 ram and if you dont want to change the proccy i would suggest the gigabyte g41 combo for appx 2.8k it will allow you to switch to DDR3 later...

    Gigabyte H61M D2H(maybe)
    Seasonic S12II 430 W - Will this do ?
if you are going with that mobo you will require a new proccy and a new ram module.gigabyte h61m-d2h
you can either go with a g41 mobo(not recommended) or new proccy+mobo+ram.
if you are going with latter, better wait for ivy bridge to be fully lauched so that price of current line proccessors are reduced.

    rest,sapphire 6670 and seasonic 430 are good.

wait for ivy bridge to come out.
prices of sandy bridge processors will drop(a little bit) then choose your processor. An i3 will be sufficient for your need.

I was going to suggest the Gigabyte G41 combo(that is what I meant by "getting a new mobo") but since he's okay with buying a new processor, it doesn't matter.
I recommend that you do some window shopping first hand, just remember to have no money in your pocket.

    Hey Dark69Slayer,

Have you made your choice or its still hanging? :-)

You can think between an i3 and fx 4100. Both are at same price levels.

I dont expect decrease in price anytime soon, considering dollar has gone up and 3rd gen processors will take some time (atleast a month) to come.

    MAN ur mobo can't be paired with i3 550.U need to get a i3 21xx or i5.
If u r going to play at 1440X900 hd 6750 is sufficient but if u don't mind spending u can go for gtx 550ti or Hd 7750.

Re: Help with building a PC -Budget 20-25K

IHO there is no difference between the 7750 and the 6750 and the board he has only supports LGA 775 socket based processors while the i3 21xx and the i5 as well as up-comming ivy bridge are LGA 1155 sockets

the ivy-bridge will be the last of the LGA 1155 sockets which will be changed next year or the year after.

while AM3+ boards will be good for another 2 cycles i.e the replacement for current AMD FX chips as well as their replacements so for about 2-3 maybe 4 years at least.

    My current system is like

    Processor- C2D E7300
    GPU- Gigabyte 8400GS
    Motherboard- DG31PR
    RAM - I just know its 2GB

I have been suggested the following config by a good friend
    Intel i3 550
    Gigabyte H61M D2H
    Corsair value RAM 4GB single
    Sapphire 6750
    CM Elite
    Seasonic S12II 430 W.

I was wondering if its necessary for me to upgrade or change everything or just the motherboard and GPU ?
Also is there a way better GPU ? I don't mind spending 1 or 2k if there is a nice difference in the performance .
I kind of was wondering if ASUS Radeon HD 7750 1 GB is a better option.
