1.free space will be 14.9gb,rest 1.1 gb is used in disk management. It is normal and happen with all pendrives.
2.file system of pen will be fat32,format it with ntfs, then you should be able to write that file.

ok .... actually i have a 2 gb pendrive that gives 1.92gb space in fat32....going by that logic i calculated i should get 15.36gb ...... anyways what of the other queries?

Well that significant amount of 1.1 GB is not lost in disk management. The thing is storage devices comes as GiB which they cite as GB. Difference is, GiB = 10^9 Bytes and GB = 2^30 Bytes.

The latter is a larger value.

Disk management do lead to loss of usable space but it is in MB hardly but not in order of 1.1GB.

@OP: many of my friends have that model,so,i don't think you got a fake one. And flipkart is a reliable site, hey don't sell duplicate things.

    Re: pen drive confusion

    ok i m summing up ..... 16 gb = 16 GiB in case of pen drives = 16 * 10^9 bytes ...... = (16*10^9/1024) mb = (16*10^9/1024)/1024 gb ???

    Re: pen drive confusion

    Exactly..
That is why the total memory shown in Windows is ~14.9GB. And that 7.4GB file transfer error is probably due to the FAT32 limitations. Format your pen drive using NTFS and you'd be good to go. And as avtar2008 said, Flipkart is reliable, so don't worry...

    Re: pen drive confusion

Dude that's 15258.789 MB. Divide it further by 1024 and you'll get 14.9GB, exactly what is being shown by your operating system...
