If you're in United States, you can check out stuff made by AVADirect. They make really good desktop replacements. There's also MSI's gaming notebook- I kinda liked their notebooks because the keys were more comfortable and the sound is probably one of the best since most gaming notebook sounds "flat". Then again MSI has those pimping lights that I don't really like. That said, this is my experience with the GT663. I think you get GT70 now so you can check it around. Then comes Asus G7xx versions and Alienware counterparts.

But when I saw AVADIRECT hardware during Computex, that made a good impression. Its not here in India though. Take a look at GT70 or something.

Then again- desktops. But that's me!

If you are on the move always or your nature of business keeps you away from your gaming desktop then its worth investing in a gaming laptop, otherwise its a sheer waste, which you will know after owning it, in due time.

    @ anmol: Valid points,
I do have a gaming PC in Mumbai, but I am doing MBBS in amravati, and my current place neither has the room for a dedicated PC and there are times when there is loss of power(around 1-4 hours). And I deal with the stress and unwinding from studies with Gaming which is why I am going for a proper gaming lappy with my available budget of 2 lakhs

@sorcy: avadirect? Ok I'll check it out , I heard that MSI lapps have loud fans?

BTW my previous lappy was a DV6 but it died in a freak accident (cat)

They have turbo fan option. When you switch that on, the fan speed increases to push out a lot of hot air, especially when you to use their factory OC setting. It does work, with the sound from the fan as a tradeoff. That's why I would be more keen on looking towards Asus counterpart as well. Just get that a good gaming headset or speakers, then again the contributor who does audio review say that usb gaming headsets he got for testing is pretty good.

Asus definitely has more value for money laptops. Check out their G74SX notebook. Alienware offers and amazing keyboard but it's still too expensive.

Ok checked AVAdirect and although it looks good the sheer level of configurations is daunting! also cant find any reviews relating to any laptops in M17x territory
    Will checkout the AsusG74SX,
The highest spec Macbook pro with retina display, should i check it out? can it do gaming?

If gaming is the sole purpose better look at the Asus G75VW (GT670). Its the next best option after the Alienware and a bit more sensible, money wise.

Re: Alienware? Looking for Best Laptop in 2 lakh budget

I had a chance to try out an ASUS G53SX so i'll just give you a few heads up (My brother has an M14x, so most probably their larger versions will be similar too assuming the G55 is better than the G53XS which it should be)

    1) The 14x is better built and its lighting is pretty sweet.
    2) 14x has slihghtly better quality speakers while the ASUS ones are slightly louder
    3) The ASUS has a matte display which is better than the Alienware's (contrast and reflections)
    4) Dell service >>>>>>>> ASUS service
    5) The ASUS had slightly better thermal dissipation and didn't throttle much as compared to the 14x which throttled more at ~ 29C room temp
    6) I preferred the Alienware's keyboard and touchpad
    7) The Alienware has a faster GPU (7970M) compared to the ASUS (GTX670M aka GTX570M) and its not that expensive as compared to the ASUS
    8) This is for both - Get the damn laptops from the US, you can get a great rig for about 1,30,000

Personally i'd go with the alienware (try this page for some cash savings - Alienware Deals )

Smile Re: Alienware? Looking for Best Laptop in 2 lakh budget

Ok thanx guys, checked all the options out.
MSI and AVAdirect were sort of dead ends, admirable laptops but to actually get them and after sales for parts... seems too much hassle
Really liked the ASUS but the hardware seems a bit dated and dont like the looks
Also did consider the new Macbook pro the one but that was 1,96,000 without a Disk drive, which just seems wrong
so i guess its going to the M17x R4, contacted the company directly its 1,67,580 rupees which is expensive but i am still going for it
wish me luck and ill post pics or video of me unboxing it soon
Thanks for the help guys! Much appreciated
