Question Connecting hard drive using eSATA

    Hi,

There's a eSATA/USB port in my Dell laptop. I'm planning to buy a 1TB HD, and it would be nice to able to use the higher speed eSata link. However, I can't find any HDs with eSata capability on Indian websites like flipkart and primeabgb. Are such drives available in India? If not, is it possible to buy casing which will provide a SATA to eSATA bridge? Thanks!

Re: Connecting hard drive using eSATA

Yeah, that's the sort of thing I'm looking for. This one is too expensive though, I'm not ready to spend 1.5k just to upgrade from USB to eSATA. Are there any cheaper solutions? Thanks!

Search for such cases and cables on ebay.in, you'll find some cheaper options.

I found this: Hi Speed Sata to eSata Cable | eBay , but it can't supply power. How would I power my HDD?

Re: Connecting hard drive using eSATA

Ok, what I seem to need is this: Dual Power eSATAp ( Power over e-Sata ) to 22pin SATA Data +Power 12V / 5V Cable | eBay . It's still a bit on the expensive side, and it's likely the eSATAp on my laptop won't output enough voltage to run a 3.5" drive (I don't want to depend on external power because I need some portability).

What would be nice is if I could get a USB to SATA (power) cable for cheap, which I could combine with a eSATA to SATA (signal) cable, but I don't know if anybody makes such cables. Any other options?

Ok, screw that, I'll have a SATA to USB interface for portability anyway, so I can go with eSATA + wall power.
