XP setup hangs at 8 minutes before completion of installation( during saving setting

I recently assembled a new computer

    Config:

    Intel dual core processor- 3GHz
    Gigabyte G41 chipset motherboard
    2GB DDR3 RAM
    Samsung Optical drive(DVD-RW)
    Hitachi 500 GB hard disk

The first install of XP- SP2 went fine but the system was hanging frequently, so i went for a fresh OS setup

Now, the XP setup does not go beyond saving setting stage (8-9 minutes left to complete the installation). I have tried several times. burnt a new XP setup CD for fresh install but the same problem continues.

I am able to install Linux Mint 12 properly. I am unable to understand what might be the problem with XP setup. I tried searching on the Internet and tried some of the solutions such as removing XP setup CD and hitting enter. but no use. Even the mouse and keyboard are irresponsive when the XP setup process hangs. So, i doubt hitting enter has any effect to start the process

I have tried swapping DVD-RW drive and memory as well. but the same problem exists. Can it be a motherboard problem? Will Gigabyte service center take the motherboard for repair?

Given that Mint installs correctly, it's unlikely to be a hardware problem. Why are you using XP?

Try trying the setup with another Xp disc
    also try the following
convert all partitions into RAW and then re format them
enable AHCI mode in your motherboard BIOS
Xp has problems recognizing and working with certain SATA and SATA 2 disks. use your SATA driver during installation of XP
    Try Xp SP3
take out your HDD, put it in a friends system and try installing again
