Indian Gamer Attempts to Break World Record
By: Avinash Bali   |   Sep 03, 2009

People sure do some crazy stuff to enter the Guinness Book of Records. They grow their nails, snort fish and even pull heavy objects with their eyelids. Today one gamer from India plans on joining their ranks not by doing any of the above mentioned painful stuff.

Chirantan Patnaik, a 26 year old gamer from Mumbai plans on entering the Guinness Book of World Records by playing Grand Theft Auto IV non-stop for more than 28 hours since that's the current world record held by Jim Patton from America. But he’s not keen on just beating the record; he wants to own it by a mile clocking in more than 30 hours.

He'll enter Liberty City tomorrow at 10.00 AM sharp and will be allowed to take 10 minute breaks every hour to do his natural deeds like eating, drinking and you know...

I spoke to Chirantan and he seemed confident. In fact he told me staying up for 24+ hours isn’t new to him and he’s done it so many times during his career. He’s even undergone some endurance training by running, exercising and practicing yoga.

When I asked him why he choose Grand Theft Auto IV of all games, he told me that (a) he’s not played GTA IV before (hibernate much?) and (2) a game that offered an open world structure would suit him the best. Saint’s Row 2 was crossed off because apparently it’s "too gangsta".

You can watch him try and attempt this feat by heading over to his blog, NeuralChaos.com that offers a live stream. It's even got a shoutout box in there so if you’d like to wish him all the best or sprout some words of advice/encouragement, feel free to do so.

Why do this?I mean Gaming is not life, its entertainment that should be enjoyed when bored or out of work for a couple of hours. Why cant he get a life?He should have spent that time in social service......

Praveen @ Sep 05, 2009

i once played non-stop for somewhat two and a half days to complete assasins creed n i'm sure i could break his record with one hand tied to my back(lol)
viki @ Sep 05, 2009
Never played gta4 before thats gonna be tough.
varun @ Sep 05, 2009
30 hours is not much by any standard for a world record!
I played gta III from evening to next morning...around 12 hours. i'm sure any hardcore gamer can beat 30!!!
I also remember playing black and white at one sitting for what seemed like eternity
Gamer @ Sep 05, 2009
taking break of 10 minutes an hour, then its not a big thing for sure.
Shaheen @ Sep 04, 2009
This is a Aprils fool joke right??? The world record standards possibly couldn't be that low... i've spent upto 2-3 days playing games continuously... once San Andreas, once Fallout... and maybe once or twice more... that much time isn't that much when you don't have anything else better to do over a weekend... anyways best of luck to Chirantan for his attempt.
Tejas Shirodkar @ Sep 04, 2009
Gr88 job Chirantan, I heard your an alumuni of NM..felt really happy !!!

ALL the best..rock the floor !!!
Abhishek @ Sep 04, 2009
Thats a nice effort! All the best!

I just hope he contacted Guinness people and got everything arranged before-hand. They have some pretty strict rules and constraints on records. Dont know if just a live stream/capture will do it.
Reetesh @ Sep 04, 2009
A 10 minute break every hour? Wow, what a joke record. 1/7 of the time he's participating in this "record", he won't even be playing a game! Of course he's confident. Anyone could beat that.
dotdothead @ Sep 04, 2009
