Xbox 360 Outsells PS3 and Wii?
By: Avinash Bali   |   Nov 26, 2006

It seems the battle of the next gen consoles has ended a lot early at least as far as America and Canada are concerned, as MSN is reporting that sales of the Xbox 360 have exceeded that of the PlayStation 3 and the Wii in both places. Now one of the main reasons for this is probably Gears of War, Epic's third person tactical shooter that seems to have taken the world by storm. In addition to this, Microsoft has also dropped the price of several Xbox 360 titles and accessories to get that added advantage over rivals.

To make matters worse for Sony, the PlayStation 3 had one of the most pathetic launch line-ups in the history of line-ups and the Wii, well only had Zelda, as all the other titles have got pretty lukewarm reviews.

Now keep in mind, this is a statistic released by MSN, and is applicable to America and Canada only, so let's give the PS3 and the Wii some time before we label them as crap; if I remember correctly, the Xbox 360 did kind of suck initially as well (remember the problems users had with overheating and the brick of an adapter?). Either way, it seems Microsoft has won round one; let's see what Sony and Nintendo have up their sleeves now.

I have a wii, and imo wii sports alone makes it worth $250. I may be one of the few who says so, and i acknowledge that graphics leave something to be desired, but damn... I have never had so much fun playing a video game, and the last time i think i had sweat pouring down my face during the month of november was in 2002 -- possibly 1998. Whatever the year, i didn't want to do it. Now i excercise instead of smoking. That's the miracle of wii.

I believe that it is true. While i was shopping for x-mas gifts on black friday, i thought there was some kind of special deal going on with the 360. I was wrong, every store i went top had people lined up to buy a 360, and most were buying gears of war. Some of those stores i go to regularly and know most of the workers who verified how many 360's they were selling along with gow and cod3, and the people were paying full price.

i like all the consoles and what they bring to the table, but it doesn't take a genius to figure out that 360 at this boint has the best games, and ps3 only has resistance, and wii only has zelda at this point. Zelda i love, but i'm not ready to spend $250 - $600 for a system only to play one game.

i believe that's why 360 is having good sales right now.

Well the xbox has hddrive and wimax and built in camera

Ps3 has much more potencial tech as well as potencial buyers that still couldn't get their hands on one :)

try this "statistic" in 6 months from now on, or if you want to make it now try comparing the number of units sold/seccond in the first hour of both consoles started to sell, and the number of users in the quewes at launch time...

360 outsells ps3 and wii?!?! The title should be "which console is the easiest to get for the 2006 holiday?" if you really want to stick with the original title then include the numbers in japan also.
XBOX @ Nov 27, 2006
Sony are a bunch of bitches... The ps3 sucks ass!
Arjun @ Nov 27, 2006
Last i checked wii and ps3 are available in limited numbers. 360's sit on shelves. Of course 360 may sell more. But the wiis and ps3s are selling out as soon as they hit shelves. This is spin pure and simple.

Ps3 and wii suck ****
u all suck that u hate xbox 360 @ Nov 26, 2006
And let's also remember that msn has to report that...Because they're owned by microsoft.
Joe from Deal @ Nov 26, 2006
I don't get it.

the playstation 3 and wii came out a couple of weeks ago, both with limited numbers, while the xbox 360 has been out for over a year.

i should really hope that the xbox 360 outsold the ps3 and wii (combined or not).
James @ Nov 26, 2006

Of course they have, the wii is struggling to keep up with demand and the ps3 just aint bothering, no wonder xbox has sold more (if they have i mean msn, microsoft xbox microsoft get it?) they have been out a year every store has em, that is no way of tellin who has won, ill tell you in a year.
Tom @ Nov 26, 2006
Give sony a bout a year then see who will out sell who
PS3 Rocks @ Nov 26, 2006
I think many people forgives microsoft has won many battles agains many others and always wins, surely it will happen again during this year against sony and nintendo.
Alfred @ Nov 26, 2006
This is kind of dumb. Who the hell thought of this? Did the writer even think? How are you going to say one console beats another console in the first week of that consoles release? Did you stop to consider that it may be the fact that there are far more owners of the 360 out there than of the ps3 and wii?
The Dude at The Place @ Nov 26, 2006
It's not surprising that xbox is outselling the ps3 and wii as they have more units so i regard the msn report as more advertising on behalf of ms. The real question is if microsoft has been selling as many units as they have hoped to sell. If yes, then they are sitting nicely. If not, that could mean a strong interest in the ps3 and/or wii as people are still willing to wait.
AC @ Nov 26, 2006
No, i doubt the 360 will have the share it has now in the future, though it will dominate over the ps3 in the coming year. However nintendos wii will bring in many new gamers and will outsell both consoles by xmas 2007.
