Sony Releases Blu-ray Home Theater System
By: Siddharth Bhatia   |   Dec 17, 2008

Sony India has added two new Blu-ray products to its suite of Full High Definition gadgets - Blu-ray Disc Player (BDP-S350) and Blu-ray Home Theatre (HTSF2300).

Blu-ray Disc Player - BDP-S350
With the ability to support Full HD resolution content, the BDP-S350 displays interactive features such as BD Live and easy access to the latest updates on Blu-ray. It comes in a slim design chassis, featuring an external port to enable extra storage capacity. The player can upscale standard definition DVDs to near HD quality. Sony claims that even if the DVD is old and scratched, it ensures minimal degradation in picture quality. The BDP-S350 unit consumes 21 percent less power in playback mode and 43 percent less in stand-by mode

Blu-ray Matching Home Theatre System – HTSF2300
The HTSF2300 Home Theatre system has been designed to match Sony's range of Blu-ray Disc players with its slimline design and blue LED backlight. It offers 5.1 channel surround sound and 1,000 watts of total output. There are 3 HDMI connections to bring together all of your multimedia devices.

BRAVIA Sync technology is also incorporated, giving you full control over your BRAVIA LCD TV, Blu-ray player and Blu-ray Home Theatre, with one remote. In addition, Sony's unique set-up system, D.C.A.C calibrates all speakers according to speaker placement, distance and delay.

The BDP-S350 and HTSF2300 are priced at Rs. 24,990 and Rs. 36,990 respectively. They will be available at the Sony owned store, select Sony authorized dealers, as well as national retail partners across the country.

Where are the Blu Rays??? Why sell such costly hardware when there is no software??? Even the few which are available are priced exobitantly at Rs. 1800 whereas one can get one in US for $12 - $20

But Movies that are coming in BR disks are damn expensive - Rs 1500 per movie!!!!

Though picture quality is extremely good, LCD panels consume more power and not sure about the warranty beyond 1 year - especially, it will be scary after purchasing nearly Rs 1 Lakh worth of equipment without proper support beyond 1 year.

All in all, we need to wait for the market to mature in India to have BR Home Theatre system etc...especially, in the down turn economic conditions people will avoid such expensive pieces

it still makes sence to buy a sony ps3 than a stand alone blueray disc.sony should have reduced the prices for it to get large numbers.
