Airtel, Vodafone to Launch iPhone 3G Together

Bharti Airtel has issued an official statement on the launch of the iPhone 3G.


The iPhone 3G will be launched in India on August 22, by Airtel. The price though still seems to elude us as they haven't mentioned anything on that front.

Vodafone, the other service provider to bring the iPhone 3G to India, hasn't issued any such statements yet. But our source tells us that Vodafone too will be launching the iPhone 3G on the same date as Airtel. There were reports earlier that Vodafone would launch the iPhone 3G 15 days before Airtel.

"iPhone has been the iconic technology revelation of this year, "said Sanjay Kapoor, president of Mobile Services at Bharti Airtel. "Airtel has been at the forefront of innovation and customer delight in the Indian telecom sector. Introducing iPhone 3G to India further underscores our commitment to enrich the communication experience of all Airtel users."

Customers will be able to purchase the iPhone 3G at Airtel Relationship Centers.

Karnataka-based Robosoft, boasts of a successful history of developing multimedia applications for Apple products and is now foraying into the iPhone market. Robosoft is releasing five games for the India App Store in September. The price of the gaming applications between Rs 40 and Rs 200 (around $4.99).

Next on the cards from Robosoft is a bouquet of content themed on Bollywood and spirituality. Robosoft is also mulling a location-based service for iPhone users for which it intends to get into an exclusive tie-up with an iPhone operator partner.

If it's between Rs.15,000-Rs.20,000 then it's likely to b a hit else anything more than that people should go for N95 only.The best price should be between Rs.8,500-Rs.15,000.

Iphone has bluetooth but it can only be used to connect BT headsets or send files to Mac or any other Iphone....

The AirTel site has already put up their launch date of 22nd Aug, but the Vodafone site still does not not have any such information. can anybody say why it has not been put up?? Intiall there were news doing round that they will have a 15 days launch advantage..what happened to that?

i have heard that in US Apple launched the iphone at low prices bcz they could cover the cost through the services provided, but in India were we have worlds lowest service cost i dont think so that Apple would be able to provide at such low price of Rs. 8000 - 10000

thats true that ifone does not have video recording or sms forwarding but all that can be done by installing 3rd party apps....

Somebody told me that iphone 3G does not havng VIDEO RECORDING also does not support SMS FORWARDING facility does it true but can b upgrade online or software can b download so viedo recordng n sms forwardng can b done on it.(is it true) also no microsoft OFFICE ?

It will be a great mistake to buy this phone now as these is no 3G service available presently in India . By the time when 3G will be available , the price of this phone will come down .

@rachit- i was told that iphone will be available in both prepaid and post paid locked but NO CONTRACT and the phone would cost more than 20k plus. The official launch date is 22nd from vodafone also.

8k to 12k is fine, what abt the maintainence charge, it will be difficult to purchase it. u have to download songs only from itunes, it costs in dollars. so better think thrice before purchase

Seems to be a lot of curosity on Iphone with people! Guys this is excellent peice, but only if yhou get in less than 10k otherwise you will regrett! By the way I bought in for 21k about 3months back and sold it in just 4days...yes just 4day! It was a TOY! no microsoft office support (though it may support now with 3g version) but still it got nothing but good internet and music, ! In stead I suggest buy an ipod for 5-6k and a good phone like e71 or htc touch if u not super teckie! Have good Day ;-)

I think IPhone won't be more than 13K since you get HTC Touch in 14K and in grey market iPhone 3G is available for 19K and 24K for 8 GB and 16 GB

Bcz its not valuer for money even if its for 8K!!!!

We all just want to feel the iPhone in our hands and want to actually know what the hype is all about...isnt it?? But the fact is the new Phone 3G has lot of problems.

So rather buying an iPhone....what i might do is....go to the airtel outlet....play with it for some time (by showing that i am a prospective customer) and then when my curosity is over....buy a good touch screen phone of a renowned brand with complete tech support and durablity.

Even i am keeping my fingers crossed for that. But really if the cost is 20k plus then i dont think it will be a great hit. But as far as i know, all leading media has the same news that its 24k.

Come on Visitors....

Hope IPhone we are waiting should be under 12k. If that doesn't happen then there is no need to buy it. In 24k 3 Iphone can come from America. It's 8k there.

If it's 24k here I'll buy it from America and will unlock it here by just paying 500/- bugs maximum then there is no need of Airtel or Vodafone

Apple I-Phone will Kick Ass Mobile prices of other companies like Nokia Samsung & Sony ericsson. Same as the Reliance Had Indirectly Slashed the Call Charges & Demolished Incoming Charges, Until then The IDEA, AIrTel & Vodafone we just making Cartel & looting Indian Customers. So ultimately the Indian consumer will be benefited. All the brands will be forced to slash there prices by 30 to 35% respectively.

regarding 2mp camera . Iphone is not Digital camera to give you professional photo if you want go for nikon /canon. remember all Nokia models comes with 2 mp
Only disdv is no MMS and Video recording. Video recording is not big concern as many doesnot use it

Guys vodafone might launch it in first week of september.
Also there has been news that the iPhone shell is cracking specially 16GB white ones.....
So a piece of advice ..... dont buy it as soon as its avaialble....wait for reviews.
