Hi everyone

iphone is best phone if i do compare to other phones, iphone has a lot of features,it seems to be a good multimedia device, as

it has great features and the user interface, and very easy to use for voice, sms and internet. and
iphone has a great internet device to user experience for browsing, default youtube client on the home screen, apps store.and

also advantage to music experience with iconic iPod.

So, as a whole if somebody who is targeting for this budget, it does not seem high when you buy a product from Apple.

Thanks
Rajesh

sumit @ Aug 28, 2008
the prices are outrageously high. Prices in India works out to $833, and $715 for 16G and 8G respectively. Whereas the world wide prices are way too low at $299 and $199 for 16G and $8G.

Is there any forum to debate this out, and cut the price?
Vinod @ Aug 23, 2008

I had recieved a call from my neighbourhood AirTel Connect; they asked me to come down there and make a refundable deposit of Rs. 5000/- for the iphone. They are uncertain about the prices and said that if the prices do not match, they would refund the money. Now, what do they exactly take me for? These clowns cannot even tell me the price of the product that they want me to give the downpayment for !

I dont remember on which site i read this, but it was speculated earlier that VODAFONE wants to make iPhone a premier handset, which they have done, and that AIRTEL will make it a mass product. So i hope that airtel places the tag at 22k and show vodafone the middle finger.
@Vodafone- i offer vodafone rs31,000 if they put 8GB iphone in their ass and 36100 for 16GB for the same.

sunny @ Aug 20, 2008
Hi guys, at 31k for an 8GB iphone .... I honestly want that the product doesnt sell. I guess greed has over taken Airtel & Voda's marketing policies. I agree with Varun "Neither twice the speed, nor half the price." Apple should caption the iphone in India as "Twice the price, half the speed."
Arnab @ Aug 20, 2008
Sunny,
These are plans ur talking for the iphone exclusively or general. Which service provider. Is ther any scheme for the prepaid sections
raj @ Aug 20, 2008
ok so i guess some of u dint get to see the plans haan , so let me tell the plans from vodafone :

rs 499 plan : 60 p flat call rate , 5p/10 kb , and 50 mb free download

rs 699 plan :60 p , 5p/10kb , 250 mb free

rs 999 plan : - - ---------- , 600 free mb

then there were some data top ups , like

rs 199 , 699 etc ...bt v less download :
sunny @ Aug 20, 2008
firstly tech2 guys u rock. u ppl were the 1st ones to giv the pricing days back.
31000 for a phone which lacks many features is not worth.
its not that ppl cant afford 31000 but its not worth the money ppl r going 2 pay.
lets see how many ppl book the iphone in dez 2 days..
i personally would never buy it at such a price.
IPHONE go back.
what happened to steve jobs promise that the iphone would be priced at 199$ or less worldwide.
were the hell did zee business get the news from??
are the launching the chinese copy of the iphone called HIPHONE 3g??
guys 1 suggestion buy a normal phone or stick 2 ur old phone nd wait itll september 4 the new ipod touch.
it will be more or less like the iphone excep the phone feature of course.
that would be a better deal

varun @ Aug 20, 2008
Apple done a mistake trying Telecom operator tie up in India, I would buy it for 30K if apple directly sells in India, for SP i am already paying Rs 750/month for GPRS, it is not worth 31K for 8GB)

Thank you for registering for your Apple iPhone 3G™ with us.
We are delighted to announce that the iPhone 3G will be available in India from August 22, 2008
It will be available in 8GB & 16GB models, priced at Rs 31,000 and Rs 36,100 respectively.
Be the first to get the iPhone
We have received a large number of registrations. As there are limited stocks, make sure that you get yours first, by paying an advance of Rs 10,000 to confirm your booking.
Where can you make this advance payment?
The iPhone 3G will be available at select Vodafone Stores.
Devaski @ Aug 20, 2008
Raj — Yea, I'd probably go with Airtel, as Vodafone (currently) doesn't have an unlimited plan for its GPRS users, and if its the same for iPhone users, it won't work for me, atleast.

Even through the iPhone pricing (31 and 36) might be the same from AirTel, but their unlimited data plan will buy me. :-)
Ibrahim @ Aug 20, 2008
Ajay, wish it was that easy for everyone. ;-) Do you have any contacts in US you' like to share? I thought of trying "mail forwarding" services, but then I'm scared of shipping (its still okay) and Customs Duty!

Do you know whats the customs duty on iphone?
Ibrahim @ Aug 20, 2008
Ibrahim ...Thats a good note . Lets c what the Airtel guys have to offer the indian lads
raj @ Aug 20, 2008
Raj, yes, its still not quite clear. News channels are reporting 25K and 8500 down payment. I, for one, would not buy it at this stage. I'd wait for a few days until the dust settles. :-)

Amit, Ruby, Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond, all are stones, all are gemstones, all have almost similar shapes and sizes, but each has its own unique quality and appeal. Hope you get my point. ;-)
Ibrahim @ Aug 20, 2008
Its such a waste of money buying this iphone3g for 31k From my view i would suggest to buy from us and make it unlock over here.
Ajay @ Aug 20, 2008
Whats the point on spending 31 - 36 K, when you can get better?? There are much better option like Nokia N82 with 5 MP Xenon Flash , Voice guided navigation.... leave these advanced features even things like copy paste options, MMS, personalised ringtones.... These basic features are not there on Iphone... whats the point????? Buy N82 , N95 or if pocket is still fat go for Nokia N96. Nokia guys you ppl rock!!! Now i know why U guys are Numero Uno
Amit @ Aug 20, 2008

raj @ Aug 20, 2008
@Ibrahim
Then why do they say u to deposit 1000 Rs initially when its 8.5K inital down payment. anyone aware of the call plan along with the bundle.
raj @ Aug 20, 2008
Yes, email from Vodafone says 31 and 36, but I heard on a news channel (zee news) today that the base price is 25K and they'd give out at 8500 (equals 199?) down payment and rest in installments.

I'd love more details at this stage, just a day before launch!

why buy a 3G phone when you cannot use the 3G for the next 6 months min? by then the nokia tube or the HTC android based phone would also be out -
Hence, by the time 3G services are rolled out here in ancient India - nokia and htc would have brought about some competition.

Anyway, the iphone is off my mind at this price.
Rishi @ Aug 20, 2008
Insane!

@31k, they are not even talking bout the data plan! What i cant comprehend is WHY would someone expect me to pay 300% the price in the United States for a product that would not do the same thing here ! i mean, vodafone or airtel does not at present have any 3G spectrum alloted to them -so if they claim they are going to provide it, they are just guessing ( they legally cant assure anything because only BSNL and MTNL have an assured spectrum, the rest is bidded away! ) they want me to pay 31k for a glorified mp3 player ! ( the network here anyway sucks, so we cant make decent calls, nor can we browse as they dont have any decent dataplans !)

I was studying the content on the vodafone website a while back. Something is no matching. This page says - "All you need to do is drop in at a select Vodafone Store between August 14 and 19 and confirm your booking by paying Rs 10000 through cash or credit card. Don't forget to show the iPhone booking SMS, which you would have received from us, when you visit the Vodafone Store to make the deposit."

We have already passed 19th and so many of us have been calling up vodafone cus.care and asking for details. Vodafone is not sharing any details. If this had to be true, they should have started accepting 10k as deposit.

WHY IS THIS NOT HAPPENING? Something fishy. I still feel, this page on vodafone was something which was to hidden from people accessing.

very dissappointed with the service of vodafone.. it was much better when it was owned by hutch, orange and even maxtouch.. they are only interested in sending their stupid messages every hour and phone calls... god knows wot they r doing in india
king @ Aug 19, 2008
After some analysis of Zee Business article, it seems to me that 699 per month is the EMI and not the monthly rental. So I am assuming its 8.5k plus 699 per month EMI plus your monthly plans.Coz if 699 includes some talktime/rent then nobody would be stupid enough to spend 26k at one go considering thats the same they will pay over 2 years with 8.5k option.
Pat @ Aug 19, 2008
@hate iPhone: I think its only fair to price iPhone at 26k considering the high-end N-series phones cost even more.

God I cant believe I am saying 26k is fair. Thats what marketing does. It is supposed to be 31k, so now even 26k seems to be a good offer.
Pat @ Aug 19, 2008
Its too costly!!!!!!

iPHONE LOVER @ Aug 19, 2008
@PAT
No hard feelings buddy. I was just too excited. But reliance had launched 500rs phone on contract basis.
Hrk @ Aug 19, 2008
Its still from Zee Business and not from Airtel/vodafone. I would be the happiest person if you are right hrishi, but its just not possible. Think logically. 25,499 seems ok but with contract for only 8.5k is impossible. Also it seems TRAI does not allow phones to be sold on contracts in India. All the more reason to not believe what Zee Business says
Pat @ Aug 19, 2008
I dont know what will eventually happen to Apple & its business in india, but 1 thing is for sure.....artel & vodafone have lost their image of being transparent and customer friendly!!!!!!

I just called up Airtel @ 121 to check on iPhone 3G. Airtel has started taking booking requests. Though they are not revealing the price, they are formally taking booking requests. I just confirmed iPhone 3G with a cus.rep and she formally accepted the request. She verified my billing address and mobile number. And then I received this message on my airtel phone -
“Your Service Request reference number is 179****0 and we will get back to you by Friday 22 AUG, 1600 hours.”

So, go ahead and call 121 now guys. Vodafone subscribers, call up your support number and check as well.

i dont think that they will delay its launch now...after announcing it officially on their website n sending e-mails to people...if they do that they are gonna lose customers trust....which will harm them in future....
Rachit @ Aug 18, 2008
In US you can buy 22 Inch touch screen capable All-in-one HP PC for $1150 which has T5850 Dual Core Processor, HD 22inch Monitor, DUal DVD Burnder, 300 GB 7200 RPM Hard-disk, WiFi, etc...

Looks like lot cheaper than Rs 30K iPhone where you will have to throw it after one year, does not make any sense
Amar @ Aug 18, 2008
If the Iphone was supposed to be launched on 22nd Airtel / Vodafone would have released the pricing. I think there is a delay due to supply problems from Apple. @TECHIE Apple does not need to promote its product. All it needs is to announce the launch date. The people will line up to buy the product. See the no of comments below and just understand how desperate everybody is for the iphone
Sidharth @ Aug 18, 2008
I agree with rishi. Apart from providing unlimited 3G and wifi access, they also have to bear high costs of infrastructure maintenance/setup and also for the salaries of their employees. Why should Airtel/Vodafone charge more from us when they get away with peanuts in all these matters. IMO, its stupid to buy a phone for 31k which does not even include data/voice services.
Pat @ Aug 18, 2008
I just spoke to an Airtel Sales person who himself is going through product training. He said that as per his knowledge (from hints he got), it shoulde be around 15-16k for 8GB and 20k for 16GB. But certainly data plan charges will be there. I m not sure whether his so called hints are corrent, but I honestly want him to be correct. Otherwise 30k for a mobile , oh God ! As to Airtel and Voda, I will only say "Lalaj buri baat hain" I hope their greed doesnt make them fall from their arrogance.
Arnab @ Aug 18, 2008
@iPhoneGod,
there is a gulf of difference between shelling out for the phone in one go and paying for the dataplan - with the latter we are paying for a service.
We get a dataplan, some free talktime and unlimited data ( like with o2 and at&t) and some things like that. If the phone is marked at 31k excluding the plan, that means u land up paying for the plan more ! and all this while you are locked to a carrier who cannot even offer reliable 2G services, let alone 3G !

the $200 phone , with ur $70 plan, offers you unlimited usage of the 3G network as well as the service providers WiFi hotSpots. all the countries where it was launched this similar model is prevailent. this second launch includes many countries that do not have 3G networks.

Wonder what we r paying for...
Rishi @ Aug 18, 2008
sure ill buy it when 3g comes out in india
novilin @ Aug 18, 2008
I totally agree with iPhone God. If this is the price then expect some cheap tariff plans. :)
Navan @ Aug 18, 2008
@ all who r still wondering for price..

guys plz dont keep so many hopes.. i bet u will be spending atleast 30k on ur iphone.. let it be a one time payment or in installments.. u will be burning a hole in ur pocket for sure..

as i already said.. no where in the world the iphone is sold cheap.. dont get carried away by seeing the price marketed.. thats all with contract.. if u want to still believe the 200$ price tag of US then in UK O2 is givin it for free with high amount plans.. now dont tell me that even u want free iphones and form a queue outside vodafone stores :P

prepaid price of iphone in US is 600$ and still locked to ATT.. its only prepaid not unlocked.. so how the hell can we expect an unlocked one for less than 30k???

if at all the price is less then we should be happy
iPhone God @ Aug 18, 2008

myguess for prices are:

one time payment: 31000

one year contract: 24000 + 1000 a month = 36000

two year contract: 16000 + 1000 a month = 40000
hfiuwah @ Aug 18, 2008
my guess for price are:

total payment at once: 31000

one year contract: 24000 down payment + monthly 1000 for ahndset alone.. that will come to 36000 on the whole..

two year contract: 16000 down payment + monthly 1000 for handset alone.. that will come to 40000 on the whole..
lets see if its true @ Aug 18, 2008
@ TECHIE

dude i just got a mail from apple news letter subscription that iphone is launching in india on 22nd august. no details abt the price as usual.
iPhone God @ Aug 18, 2008
Apple Iphone 3G is in very short supply worldwide and Indian Operators Vodafone and Bharti Airtel have not yet recieved their consignment of the Iphones...That could be one of the reasons that there are no updates about the iphone on the websites of both these operators...I think there would be a certain delay in launch of the Iphone by Vodafone otherwise they would have been out with their pricing by now...Reportedly O2 in UK has asked apple to supply as many Iphones as it can to it but Apple is only able to meet 10% of the demand as it is launching the iphone simultaneously in 22 countries on the 22nd...Apparently Vodafone is arranging a few hundred iphones out of its european inventory to train its staff in India
TECHIE @ Aug 18, 2008
US Price Rs 8500/- + 2 year Contract of Minimum $60 P.M = Rs 2600/- (Approx)...
Assume that out of the Rs 2600/-, Rs 1600/- goes for the Operator and towards the Free calls , Sms etc...then too Rs 1000/- per month is for Apple and is the installment for the Iphone..

So actual price of Iphone in US is Rs 8500/- + Rs 24000/- (Rs 1000 X 24 months ) = Rs 32000/-......
TECHIE @ Aug 18, 2008
@ Rachit..Same as reported 31000 +...Unbelievable but true..
That's the actual price of an unlocked Iphone anywhere in the world without contract...Apple products have always been more expensive than other companies and i think it would stay that way...Plus its a well known fact that India is not the most important market for Apple and is not a priority hence there wont be any special subsidies on the device...
Personally i hope its all bull shit and the device launches for somewhere near 15 to 18 k but i dont think thats gonna happen...coz if Apple sells an iphone without contract here for 15k then everyone in the world would buy form india and get it unlocked in their own country....
TECHIE @ Aug 18, 2008

I just got to speak to one of the Vodafone Customer execs. She said that they are scheduled to go for the iphone training next weekk.. Say frm tom, so u can say for sure that they wont launch on 22nd. Similar news frm Airtel ppl. however my sources in the industry say that Airtel will launch before Vodafone. and Vodafone will launch in Sept 1st week. And also the Airtels pricing of the 8GB phone is speculated to be abt 18k and 16GB at 20k.
Rgds,

Kapil @ Aug 17, 2008
BREAKING NEWS:::::As per sources both Airtel and Vodafone think that due to the high Pricing of the Iphone it wont be a mass product in India and due to the Difficulty in recovery of bills etc...providing a 2 year contract for the same wont be practical in India..Hence, there wont be a big bang launch of the Iphone in India via Media Ads etc..and the same will be a soft launch as it would be a class prodyct and not a mass one...Instead Airtel is concentrating on its Contract with HTC for promoting the Diamond via media ads (As u all must have seen on TV) and Vodafone is unwilling to run a media campaign for such a small target audiance and is concentrating on mass products like the Rs 1199/- phone (Rakhi Ad).........(Unconfirmed reports from sources which are very reliable)

Are they releasing the "Jesus Phone" on 22nd August ? 4 days to go. No announcement about pricing and plans. No advance booking etc. Think Apple is facing the legendary supply problem and may want to delay the launch to satisfy the existing markets.

1 more demerit of this gadget is dat IT DOESN"T FEATURE VIDEO RECORDIG!!!!!!
MUNZi @ Aug 17, 2008
I guess once its out the craze will last onlya few days and althoug the number of sucbribers in india are way ahead of any other country, Apple should not expect too many devices to sell in India if this is the pricing and to top it the OPerators wil lbundle it with a plan and so many ppl wil lhave to give away their nos and original better plans...

If dis is the price, iphone will be a big flop in the country, anyway i think there is something fishy in this pricing, the reason is simple because neither airtel or vodafone have disclosed the pricing.........even though only 5 days are left for the release...........da u agree ??
Sairaj Menon @ Aug 17, 2008
I think I am going to buy the iphone only if it is priced around Rs.20000, i don't that it is worth 31,000 bugs..........there is no video recording, copy paste, picture messaging & the still camera is also just 2 mega-pixel & provided there are also many 5 mp camera phones with 3g available at the range of 20000 to 25000. Hi!

This news release is just to test the pulse of USERS.
If tendency is to have a luck around, i am sorry the sellers are going to be big losers. It is know history in the telecom industry, atleast the Hardware manufacturers.

If users don't get direct benefit as they might get it from Original manufacture, these strategies will fail in India.

How CDMA, Blackberry failed miserably? everyone knows.

After all, we the people have the money & mind to decide.
Lets us be calm. Wait & Watch.
Cheers :)

This might come as a shock to all. But it was quite expected. I believe it was situpid for the people to think that the iphone 3g would actually sell for 200 and 300$. That pricing would have been possible with a service plan of more than Rs. 1k or more per month. So anyways it would finally sum up to the same. Ofcourse 31 and 36 does sound too high. I had expected it to be in 22-28k range which would be justified.

Better strategy would have been launch at the occasion of independence day and with a price tag somwhere between 12K-15K.

Many would have bought it.....but the hype, the rumors and the price ruymors has actually affected the decision of many and i think apple is going to loose it big time....until offcourse they intend to sell it @ price less than 10K for 8GB.

Well.. I dont blame Tech2 for this piece of news... Lately i enquired with one of the people wearing the "HAPPY TO HELP" badge in a vodafone store. That guy had a almost similar story to tell. It was told that Vodafone is busy training its employees about the iPhone and he himself seems to have attended the training. But when he told me that iPhone 32gb is being launched for 30k i almost snapped back at him saying that apple has not even launched 32gb in US and how can they launch 32gb in India to which he asked me to wait and watch in a very Confident Tone....
So i'm waiting for the mystery to get unfolded on Aug 22'nd so that i can go and confront the same guy as i still believe that there's no iPhone 32gb in existance.....

35. The only personalization of the iPhone (beyond to the choice of the default tones) is possibility to put a wallpaper that can only be looked at when the telephone is locked
36. No game included (and no way to install anything like that)
Vinod @ Aug 13, 2008

Airtel and Vodafone to Price iPhone 3G at Par
Techtree News Staff Email Print
Aug 12, 2008

We can reveal that both Vodafone and Airtel are in close conversation and both companies will price both the 8GB and the 16GB version identically. This is bad news for us consumers since it takes away the spirit of competition.
While certain sections of the media have quoted an "official price" between Rs 30,000 and Rs 36,000 for the iPhone 3G, our sources tell us that the price is still a closely guarded secret.
Our source did have some interesting numbers to share -- Airtel has seen around 2.5 million inquiries over the iPhone 3G, since announcement. Out of which, about 1 million inquiries have been made over the Internet. Airtel expects a 30% conversion rate..
tech2sukz @ Aug 13, 2008
bull shit....if its priced that high Airtel wont manage to sell more than a 100 phones nation wide....there are plenty of options which are much better than the restrictive iphone at that pricew range...plus i think tech2 is wrong about the pricing as they were wrong about the iphone being launched b vodafone on 18th august...tech 2 guyz i think u should fire ur source guy right away as he is useless....i hope u dint pay him anything for this pathetic info....)
tech2 sukz @ Aug 13, 2008
that's ridiculous. I'm not gonna buy at 31k. Here goes another potential customer from Vodafone. I'll rather buy a blackberry or Nokia E series phone than to pay premuim of 10-15 k just for the heck of UI.
Nits @ Aug 13, 2008
No credible source to back this news. Tech2.com just intends to get more clicks. It wouldn't be practical for Airtel and Vodafone to price it at 30K or higher - they won't be able to attract an average customer. Regarding price monopoly, I don't think anyone can stop Airtel and Vodafone from fixing a price and stifle competition. We've been told since April 2006 that number portability will come into force but nothing so far. As long as the telephone companies keep paying the ministries well, the government give's a rat's ass.
Average Customer @ Aug 13, 2008
Firstly i feel that tech 2 should reveal the source of this news. If the news is true then i feel, its not worth 31 k. I would rather buy a ipod touch and a nokia 1100. The only reason i wanted a i phone was for its UI and design. 31k is way to much for the i phone
Karthik @ Aug 13, 2008
I will again say Airtel and Vodafone Ofiicials Take ur IPhone in ur ASS.

We will buy it from some other country at 8K and will unlock it here...
Mohit Khosla @ Aug 13, 2008
all my fellow indians, just buying Iphone 3g, just have a look at the specs of HTC toch PRO comming in india within 4-5 months @ approx 25K. In all the cases, HTC touch PRO wins except the processor i.e. Iphone 3g has ARM 11 processor @ 620MHz and Touch pro @ 524 Mhz. Also Samsung Omnia is a good PDA
here
199 $$ = 30K for 8gb and
299 $$ = 37K for 16gb
surely airtel and vodafone are making us fool
Iphone killer @ Aug 13, 2008
31k is a little too much for the iphone.. it should have been somewhere near 25k...cause the iphone is basically the ipod touch + a phone. the ipod touch(8GB) version is available for 17k, so adding basic phone features, 3G, GPS and a camera should not cost more than 5k. in total 22k and some profit for the sellers, so max 23k..

Al those who tought it would be available for 15k or less surely must have been dreaming. You guys must have got carried away by the $200 announcement of apple. But that comes with a 2YR contract. and the total price over 2 yrs is more like a $1000.

Besides all competing phones are similarly priced. HTC diamond is 28k, N95 8GB is 27k, Samsung touch is 22k(a little lower). So there must be reason for the price and just greediness.
Varun @ Aug 13, 2008
I will never buy this phone at those prices - pathetic lol for such a piece of scrap hardware + camera. Go for samsung omnia

COST OF THIS IPHONE IS TOO MUCH AND BATTERY BACK-UP IS ALSO VERY LOW. IF PRICE RANGE IS IN BETWEEN 16000 TO 22000 INR OF 16 GB, IT IS BETTER TO CAPTURE MARKET.
KAILASH SAWALKA @ Aug 13, 2008
well few points:-

1. apple is always costly in india u can get ipod touch new on ebay for 12k in apple shop same thing for 16k, both with warranty.

2. Iphone touch screen phone should be that costly check HTC diamond thats a better deal.

3. Taxes on mobile phone in india are only 5% so doesn't effect that much.

If you are regular visitor in tech blogs u will come to know that apple gets a huge share of revenue from AT&T on monthly internet rental which comes close to this price only. So in India you have freedom to choose, well whatever it will help grey market a lot, and even if you have original one, grey market will make it look a non luxury item.

Somewhere i am happy its not gonna be common, somewhere i am gonna buy a Diamond, with all the features iphone is missing

Anshuman @ Aug 13, 2008
I think this price is for an officially unlocked version of iphone and the iphone with contract will still cost you around 12k. It is much like in US if you want a carrier independent iphone you pay about $699-799(though the offer isn't up yet,but it has been confirmed by at&t) and carrier locked one costs you $199
rajesh @ Aug 13, 2008

@ leper_messiah

My friend most of the phones u short-listed are good. But please decide ur priorities. I mean do u want it for Music, imaging, business or an all-in-one type phone.

I would recommend W910i and Nokia 5610. Both are music centric cellphones with good imaging features. Both have a 3.2 MP cam but the Nokia one has flash and AF.

So if you then 5610 woukl be a good choice with money left to buy some decent pair of headphones.

Have a good day.

Dude it seems tat u hav an iPhone, and it seems tat u are loaded with money & it also seems tat u have an OVERBLOWN EGO and tat u r a big JERK!

And my friend, if one does not have 31K to get an iPhone it does not mean tat he knows zilch abt it. I dont how much you know abt it. But in my opinion IT IS OVERHYPED and if ppl are goin to buy it, its only coz either they are big dumb arses or they have money to throw. 31k for a path breaking touch UI?? I dont think so. The only reason i would buy it would be if i wanted to show off!!

I give Apple credit for their marketing. They have manged to lure nit-wits like you.

And dude, i have a 1100 and am pretty happy with it. And so that you dont think am tech challenged, i have a SE K750i and LG Viewty. Viewty Kicks some iPhone butt!

Lohit Sachdeva @ Aug 12, 2008
Sad......that iPhone was hyped to such an extent with rumors of Rs 8,000/- setting up a hope and then such a price tag shattering every hope.

I think apple will loose lot of business as far as India is concerened if they set such price tag.......they should have done a strategy survey first..........especially in indian market.
pawan @ Aug 12, 2008
Huh!!!

All are Rumors
Samrat Mazumdar @ Aug 12, 2008
well with that pricing i dont know what airtel and vodaphone strategy to capture market is i think they are nuts it is heavily overpriced and people will rather go to iphone killers which are far superior than this iphone few examples are lg viewty, samsung touch etc
akshay @ Aug 12, 2008
ha ha i don't think apple will sucess with this price at india ..........
beat of luck..............
rohit mehrotra @ Aug 12, 2008

u guys dont even know the basics abt iphone and are waiting to buy one for errrr how much is it 8k? oh sorry less than 12K is it!! i cant stop laughing now :D

all u guys who think its waste of money go and buy urself a nokia 1100 OR feel the iphone for a week atleast and then post the same crap that its no good.. i will accept it.. till date so many companies came up with so called iphone killers and none stood up to it.. the sales of 1 million units in 3 days of its launch shows how good it is..

bye bye iPhone!!!!!

Can anyone tell me a good phone in the price of around Rs 13000..
ritesh @ Aug 12, 2008
True, I too doubt the Authenticity of this News Release Especially since it is not credited by either Airtel or Vodafone. It's just released as a Hear Say.
Saths @ Aug 12, 2008
Yes, Aloak, We will be paying premium for those features which can not be used (like 3G data speed) and even if 3G becomes available, video calling is not possible through 3G iPhone because it does not have front facing camera.

Our data plans are prohibiltively expensive (EDGE/Unlimited GPRS) along with mobileme which is already expensive in US!

Over all, too much for nothing! Example you can quote Blackberry devices which are unnecessarily expensive in India though it lacks features and functionalities compared to its peers.
Amar @ Aug 12, 2008
Whatever may be the price do not let the people depend on you, in future. Since most of Indians are prestigious and try not to be dependent, may choose an alternative. Dont threaten.
JSN @ Aug 12, 2008
i agree with Amar. 30k+ for iphone3g ( currently 33 is not available in india ) is waste of money. dont waste your money look for phones like Samsung i8510 Innov8 (8MP camera phone) or Nokia N96 !!!
Aalok @ Aug 12, 2008
As some one suggested, the media and the providers trying to play some tricks. They initially give high value only later to reduce it to Rs 20-25K range (still heavily unacceptable).

This piece of outdated phone above Rs 15K is not worth it.

You can go for Sony Ericsson P1i which has much more to offer like QWERTT Keyboard, Touch Screen, Expandable Memory, Opera browser, WiFi, "Functional" Bluetooth, 3G with front facing camera, 3 MP Camera with Flash, GPS module....for Rs 13K.

In my opinion, iPhone 3G (8 GB Version) beyond Rs 10K-12K is waste of money.

Only people who are insane will think of paying it beyond Rs 15K and I cant even talk about those telling Rs 25K and Rs 35K is ok!!!!!
Amar @ Aug 12, 2008
If this news false than I loose faith in tech2 and if it is not than in apple + airtel + vodafone. Bye bye iPhone
sandeep @ Aug 12, 2008

dinu @ Aug 12, 2008
I am sure if the price stated by Kapil is corect then most of the smartphone price would fall and it would be gr8 for consumers. Lets hope for the best.
Danish Ahmed @ Aug 12, 2008
ARE YOU KIDDING TECH2?
impossible! guys don't believe it.
8gb iphone 3g will cost less than 12k.
Aalok @ Aug 12, 2008
What is the trith please clear it fast what is the actuall price?
Danish Ahmed @ Aug 12, 2008
The iphone price of Airtel will be around 17900 for 8GB and 20000 for 16GB
vodafone to price it at lower price than Airtel.

Also the launch date of AIRTEL is 23rd and not 22nd.. this is my claim.

this is what my source says.

my no. is 9867622924. any1 can contact me and discuss issues related to iphone...

Kunal @ Aug 12, 2008
Oh, Guru just said it. :-)
Ibrahim @ Aug 12, 2008
iPone 3G is not worth that much money..it's worth only 15 to 20K
San @ Aug 12, 2008
I think these pricing details are not real, but just published (by providers - Vodafone or Airtel) to determine the reaction before finalizing the prices?

If these prices are for real, I believe only about 40% people would (be able to) buy it.
Ibrahim @ Aug 12, 2008
Guys, just maintain your cool. Its a common tactic, first make lot of fuss about the product, second make fuss about the higher price and then finally launch the product with bit lesser price than people have originally estimated.

After this fuss, on August 22nd even if Airtel/Vodafone lauch IPhone at Rs 25K people will die to buy it, thinking that they got a good deal. Old and lame marketing tactics.
Guru @ Aug 12, 2008
30k bucks !!!...oh god...
hope it's not true
Amol @ Aug 12, 2008
if u see the indiatimes website there tey say that the wait finally "SEEMS" to be over and they have received "REPORTS" about the pricing.. so u see it is not official as tech2 claims it to be..

Rams @ Aug 12, 2008
A comparison of International pricing for the iPhone reveals that on a average the price and the tariff plan for two years works out to be around US$ 1500.

In the US the phone cost is US$ 199 and a minimum monthly plan of US$ 70 for two years. If you look at Hong Kong(lowest tariffs for the iPhone) the phone cost is US$ 377 and a minimum monthly plan of US$ 25 for two years.

If iPhone 3G is offered without the service contract of two years for Rs 31000. But i don't think so (These prices are not inclusive of the plan these phones will come bundled with).

Mr. Jobs, if this is the likely price not inclusive of the rate plan, then certainly a majority of Indian customers are not going to be part of the 10 million iPhone users around the world which you hope to achieve this year.
Prabhu @ Aug 12, 2008
I just checked timesofindia website. It states 8GB for 31k and 16GB for 37k. Good bye Apple! Greediness at its ultimate for Airtel and Voda.

What does "iphone" truly stand for? "Intelligent" as Steve Jobs stated in his keynote? OR, is it plainly "Idiotic"? For a mobile phone that lacks basic user orients and has features that do not even apply to India apparently, 31,000/- is a rip-off for a mere 8gig model! What are Airtel and Vodaphone thinking? (If the allegations are true) Are we retarded to swoon in and embrase the price with open arms? I guess not! It would be a catastrophic move by both the carriers if implied. Eitherways, this phone is likely for the wannabe kinds and not for ppl who have a little bit of gray-matter...

Also i think this news is fake news of the day.Price cannot be this much and that too without palns.Indian ppl are crazy but not mad.

this info is not true. lets wait for 22nd. 8gb will be for 19000 amd 16gb for 22-23000Rs. i bet u!:)

Haha, Earlier the tech2 guys were braggin about the price to be around 13k, now they say it is 31k. Shit man, i was ready to buy this device seeing as it would be priced around 13k, now my dreams are shattered, anyways it is not worth that much either, but stilol it has a hype about it that increases its overall value. Sighs :-(

these prices posted here are false. i can't say what they are, but the 8 gb one are far lower :)
saurabh pande @ Aug 12, 2008
I feel this can be wrong. U assume if I buy teh iphoen at a price which is more than teh unlocked iphone why will Apple lanuch it thru Airtel and vodafone only. I bet teh taxes are nto so high in INdia that make the i phone 10K more than the max proces of Iphone sold till now. Assuming it was 499$.

I think E71 is on teh same price of US . $400 . Either the media is always happy to fool people around them or carrier like Airtel an vofaone dont know the magic of iphone from which they can boost thr sales.
Sachin Malhotra @ Aug 12, 2008
Stupid price, doesn't attract the customers. Especially Indians, they need to understand why Nokia 1100 ruled the market even with its basic features. I think let us wait till August 22nd, 2008. It will let us know to opt for IPhone 3g of Other mobile.... !!!
Uday @ Aug 12, 2008

this is very high cost because in usa only 200 doller it means 8000/- and in india 31000/-?
jagdish grover @ Aug 12, 2008
Even if we calculate the price at 325$ it comes to Rs. 13650. So there is no logic for for Vodafone and Airtel to invariably sell it for more than 30K without a service plan. When they can make hefty profits by seling it for 15K!!!!
Aamir @ Aug 12, 2008
