Sony Ericsson has launched its most awaited phone the Xperia X1 in India a good two weeks before the US launch.
The Xperia is the new premium sub-brand in Sony Ericsson's portfolio.
The X1 stands out with its arc-slider design, fully functional nine customisable panels, a 3-inch clear wide VGA display, a full QWERTY keyboard, 4-way key and optical joystick navigation and a 3.2 megapixel auto focus camera within a quality metal-finish body.
Running on Windows Mobile the Xperia X1 has the highest data transfer rate (HSDPA/HSUPA) and WiFi support.
"The Xperia X1 is the first product under Sony Ericsson's new premium sub-brand Xperia. Designed to meet consumers' needs for a converged entertainment and mobile web communication experience, the Xperia X1 is an exceptionally stylish handset, enhanced by the striking arc-slider design, encased in real stainless steel, to provide quality and durability. It is supported by a powerful panel multimedia ecosystem. said Sudhin Mathur, General Manager, Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications.
He further added, "The XperiaX1 can be personalised through its nine panel user interface to suit the user's moods and lifestyle. Users can access content quickly and directly through the touch screen, easily switching between applications by touching one of the unique customizable panels. The arc design gives a distinct and unique feel. With Windows Mobile, the highest data transfer rate (HSDPA/HSUPA) and Wi-Fi support, you can enjoy your favourite entertainment and work efficiently on the move. Xperia is our promise to think foremost of user experience and to deliver the premium experience – anytime, anywhere, anything, with anyone."
The Xperia will be available at an MRP of Rs. 44,500.

All mentioned features are ordinary. E71 has almost everything except touch screen LCD & VGA display sold for almost Rs20K.
I feel P1i is best bargain which is almost similar may lack few features like VGA etc...but I can tell you that WM is a $hit OS where even you can not group your contacts. Keeps all your ring-tones in its ROM and creating memory problems etc...
They need to slash price by 50% to expect decent sale especially when they package 3.0 MP Camera.
Just like HTC, iPhone, Samsung premium models this will be a grand failure in India for sure.

its not competing with the plasticky N-series but against the 8800 fashion phones and other luxury phones copmared to whom its a real winner, look at 8800 for Rs;53,000/- its a crap with s40 Symbian and now look at S.E.X1, get it....
if not not my fault...
PEACE LOL

so i guess its the road end for the SE as they have already started out churning out "heavy-duty" loses much like Motorola. Its market share is shrinking(like hell) with each passing day(and night)........ some1 ightly said>"every beginning has its end"..... so i guess its time SE pack off thier backs and sleep in the graves. thnx SE for all the best(i mean, the worst) of the mobile they have provided us(not me). it has been a long journey. hope we will see u(i mean, we will never) see u again!!. BYE BYE SE!!!...... R.I.P

44.5 k
I mean that's ridiculous
SE please , u need some time off
or your dear customers will kick on your ass and choose motorola

But I guess this has been SE age old problem. When the phones are launched, the are way too expensive but the prices crash preet quickly. Also no one sells phones at MRP these days. It's always a few thousand less on street.
For the record, I am a SE fan. Currently own a W890. Cool phone.

I had exactly"Rs 44,000 Budget" at my disposal for a new "phone".. but.adding Rs 500 more to imeet 44,500.00 might just cross my limit...so i'll pass..

The Phones were HTC TyTN II ,HTCTouch Pro,Sony Ericsson
XPERIA X1(only TyTN was available that time.)
I was even Ready to buy HTC Diamond...but when I came to know it's launched in India as Non-3G and Airtel Bundled/Locked ..ahhh :(
Hope They won't do the same with HTC Pro.
Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional Licensing Fees , High Powered(above 500Mgz) Processor ,More RAM and ROM
makes These High-End Windows Mobile Phones SO COSTLY.
At last I chose Nokia E90 -Symbian and Non-Touch Screen Phone
but with all the Other features...Full Qwerty Keypad ,Excellent 3.2MP Camera..a Flap Phone.
Nokia E90 in 35K ..It seems little over-priced too but it's ok for such a Powerful Device.

Nseries and Xperia......seriously......you are a nutter man.....you gotta agree with the point saurav makes about N95......32000 at that time was way overpriced.....
and i aint no SE fanboy....my last phone was N82 and i recently got the E71 yesterday as i got to know about the price of Xperia.... as of now of all the phones available i'd love to own Xperia but 44500 took me aways from it and got a sexy E71 instead.....
and i dont think the price will affect XPERIA sales as i belive XPERIA to be a flaunt symbol and also a niche product... waiting for the next set of phones in the X series from SE.....
Prathamesh @ Nov 14, 2008

Yes there are SE fanboys.
But even they will find this a hard pill to swallow.
Come on !! SE !!!! WAKE UP.
After the SE K750i I never saw a phone that could truly be called a good package.
Please do something about it, or Nokia and Samsung will walk all over your market share or what you claim to have of it.
Aneesh Raghavan @ Nov 14, 2008
it should not be more than 30k
as soon as this comes at a price of 30k than it will be in my pocket

iPhone with its huge brand name and expectations managed to sell just 4000 units.
I bet this phone will not even cross 500 units..
hi @ Nov 14, 2008
I have been waiting for this phone for long but I am disappointed with the price tag. I will prefer to wait for price fall.
With this price tag , this gonna go IPhone way. Less than 4000 Iphones are sold in India till now.
Wake up guys , do sensible pricing.
