Vodafone, Airtel Offer Pre-Registering of iPhone
By: Tech2.com News Staff   |   Jun 26, 2008

When the iPhone 3G was announced, unlike Airtel, Vodafone made no formal announcement that it would be bringing the much awaited mobile phone to India.

Apple, though, confirmed this by mentioning that India would get the iPhone 3G through Airtel and Vodafone.

Now Vodafone has announced that people can pre-register for the iPhone with them, indicating that the iPhone will be available soon. The company is tight-lipped on the question 'How soon?'. All they are willing to divulge is that the iPhone will be compatible only with the 2G networks and some of the iPhone 3G's features may not work here.

Airtel too is inviting people to book their iPhone with them.

In India it will be announced in the month of December'2008 and the price as mentioned in AT&T Website, will be offered for Rs 25, 000 (8 GB) and Rs 32,000 (16 GB). No Service contract required in India but you can change it whenever you want it

Amit Sharma @ Jul 02, 2008
The actual rates are out. The 8GB version will be available for $599 and 16 GB for $699. Everyone who were thinking that IPhone will be available for $199 and $299 didnt realise that customers in US had to sign a contract with At&T to get the phone at that rate.
Amit Sharma @ Jul 02, 2008
hey its coming on 11th july. . .and its only rupees 8500
Sid @ Jul 02, 2008
Ok I will make my first online confession. I have a habit of changing mobiles very often and I really do spend loads of money on this habit. No matter which mobile I buy from mid to high end segment, I get bored from them after some time and change but now I really hope this iPhone can make me hooked on to it forever.
Mandeep Sahni @ Jul 01, 2008
well this phone is not gud for 2g netwrk if 3g services wont b available then one should go for samsung omnia it got better features then i phone
vivek bengani @ Jul 01, 2008

pawan @ Jun 30, 2008
Can any one tell me if the 3G iphone will have a Java Runtime Environment or will it be compatible for java applications as in Nokia, Sony Ericsson, etc ???
Jeegar @ Jun 29, 2008
IPhone 3G might come to India around December.
Altaf @ Jun 28, 2008
Based on the insider story, it looks like the release will be on Dec'2008 and the price range will be anywhere between Rs 21K - Rs 25K.

We need to wait whether the material quality is same to that of US iPhones. Sometimes, it is possible to manufacture cheaper quality materials for third-world countries like India. Blackberry devices use this tactics still making Indian customers to pay more than US customers yet provide them sub-standard quality.
Amar @ Jun 28, 2008
The disadvantage of iphone is that we can't forward the msg's,we can't record, we can't switch off the cell when it hang's Nd We can't share files by using bluetooth
Manoj @ Jun 27, 2008
Once the Operators start 3G they should be available on iPhone.
Ajit @ Jun 27, 2008
hi Chinmaya,

how sure r u abt the pricing in india?
on what basis u r stating so?
swamy @ Jun 27, 2008
The cost of the iPhone in India will be around 16 to 17k for 8GB and around 22 to 23k for 16GB. Some of the 3G features will not work in india, as it is told. Vodafone started the registrations, and i have done it already.
chinmaya @ Jun 27, 2008
Quote (Arjun Agrawal):

Apple has announced that the iPhone 3G will cost 199 USD for the 8 GB variant and 299 USD for the 16 GB variant. So that translates to a price of Rs. 8000 and Rs. 12000 respectively.

Me:

Thats not going to be the case Arjun. People in US are being offered the phone for that price is because they have to sign a 2 year ontract with AT&T which is quite expensive. In other words, AT&T is offering to pay quite a bit of the iphone's actual cost. The phone otherwise would cost more than double that rate. This phone will be able in other countries (where the users dont have to sign any contract) for around $500 to $700. So I guess in India, the 16GB version phone should be available around 23K which I think is too high for this phone.

gaurav jain @ Jun 27, 2008
how much does the i-phone cost?
can u let me know about it?
Gaurav Banyal @ Jun 27, 2008
dont expect it to be a dream machine like its made to be. Iphone is a good multi media phone - thats about it, nothin more-nothin less. Zero business functionality Since its a 2G phone expect poor surfing experience as well.
U ll survive without an IPHONE ;)
