Before announcements of official release dates and pricing, we were getting you the information. Now that the price has been officially confirmed, this is for those who would like to hear it from the horse's mouth.
Vodafone has announced the official pricing for the iPhone 3G, though Airtel hasn't made any statements yet.
The 8 GB version will cost Rs. 31,000 and the 16 GB version will cost Rs. 36,100.
Those who've pre-registered for the iPhone 3G can go to a Vodafone store today or tomorrow, and confirm their booking by paying Rs. 10,000. It is the fee for pre-booking.
They will then receive an appointment date and time starting 22nd August where they can go and pick up their iPhones.
Check out the Vodafone site for more info.

and it sucks on the features hell lot of drawbacks
"Iphone Or Ufool" think what you want
just like stock market pricing of Iphone taken over by its brand name

And if our source is to be believed, Airtel has received around 400,000 pre-registrations for the iPhone. Even if 20% of those actually decide to buy the iPhone 3G in India then Airtel would have some 80,000 orders. However it is said that Apple has provided only 25000 iPhones to Airtel initially. Thus the decision to keep the iPhone a top-end product (which it is) and thus peiced at a heavy premium.
The prices are expected to fall after diwali. Enjoy!

More abuse news for iPhone lovers as Vodafone released the plans which include voice as well as data. For a new postpaid user, there are three plan options - iPhone 499 (Rs. 499), iPhone 799 (Rs. 799) and iPhone 999 (Rs. 999). On the calling front, these plans will have free 199, 249 and 299 minutes (local & STD) respectively. All local calls go at 60 paise flat while STD at Re. 1. SMS charges are 1/2/5 (local/national/international). Heavy internet users will be disappointed because there is no unlimited data plan to go for. The free data usage per month for these plans is 50MB, 250MB and 600MB.

saji @ Aug 20, 2008
Okay right now cost wise it is too high at about 1000 apiece. But from a very practical angle how many would be able to use it in reallife indian circumstances?
Would we want a device which always demands a 2hand use policy.
A device that has a lot of short comings apart from the ones mentioned above + also the fact you cant create or edit office documents.
A device which will need to be returned for something as simple as changing the battery?
A device which has a 2mpx camera.
Question is how many will seriously want to burn a serious hole in their pocket for a device which looks great but doesnt stand a chance against the likes of even java enabled phones and not speaking of the symbian ones.
Got to understand that at this price point the service providers are still going to charge their esteemed customers for the data usage etc etc and not gonna bundle services as we would expect.
Man its Sad & its also very Bad.

i see the same info as you see. is sait it is TRUE. the price is 31k indeed. either you didn't read my post correctly or i didn't get you.

1. I got the sms
2. I checked up the vodafone site.
Think personally however the i phone is no competition for my nokia e51. Got oodles of features which the iphone users can only dream of atleast for sometime to come.
Think of it!
Finally i think its just the novelty factor of owning an apple phone that will drive the people to buy this phone but at this price point and with such dearth of features i dont think its worth the money when there are scores of symbian s60 and uiq phones which surely cost less and also do more and almost anything.

35000= HTC Touch Diamond + any IPod
35000= 30 grams of gold for investment
35000= Nokia N96 with a 5 Mp CAm, 16 GB internal memory and transfalsh capability upto 8 gb, full bluetooth connectivity and no restrictions of being locked on to a network or anything...
and
36100 = a shitty phone with no file transfer capability between phones, a 2 mp outdated camera with no video recording, locked to a single network so practically 0 resale value and additional stupid bills for internet browsing as there are no unlimited plans///////////\

By the way, the concept of ipod is lost in India. Ipod stands for DAP and nobody seem to care that the original ipod is from a company
called Apple. The Apple brand recognition is almost close to zero apart from the techies who know what that company is.
Lot of people like their crackberries. They are waiting more for the crackberry bold than this thing.
But I do expect this thing to be sold like hot cakes back home. Like I said there is no limit to stupid people who will spend $700 on a
cell phone.
