Vodafone to Sell iPhone 3G for 13K?
By: Laiq Qureshi   |   Jul 28, 2008

Now it's clear that Vodafone will ace the iPhone 3G launch in India to Airtel by a few days, making 18th of August the day of the launch. Some more info to come floating out of the rumor mill is that the price of the phone bundled with Vodafone will be around Rs 13,000 for the 8GB model.

My common sense says to believe this rumor only when it's confirmed, because it does seem too low a price for the iPhone 3G bundled with a plan.

You'll hear more from us as soon as we know.

Hrk @ Aug 10, 2008
IPhone will cost Rs. 15,000/- with a Rs. 750 pm starting plan for postpaid customers for 2 years contract. This seems affordable at the same time worth.
Rahul @ Aug 10, 2008
if iphone3g price is 13k thats ok if its higher than 13k a common man does not afford he is waiting when the prices down n then he can buy so i think every one cant enjoy this iphone3g
gaurav vats @ Aug 08, 2008
well iphone in between 12-15k seems a reasonable price , since it costs around 9k(in irs) in us.
moreover even if they sell it for 13k , both the service provider will have atleast 4 k in there pockets , which is almost equal to the half of it soriginal price.
so iphone around 13k is a possibility
sumit @ Aug 08, 2008
Techtree says that the price of 8GB IPHONE 3G will be between 20,000-25,000rs and that contract system seems to be a rare possibility. So i guess this puts an end to the rumours of price being 13k or even 17k.
Hrk @ Aug 07, 2008
Even The TIMES OF INDIA has the same news that vodafone also launching iphone 3g on 22nd August.
Hrk @ Aug 07, 2008
Ok guys, here's something more for u.
According to BUSINESS LINE OF THE HINDU, even vodafone is launching iphone 3g on 22nd August along with airtel.
It also says that the price will be higher initially but the operators MAY also give some bundled plans.
Hrk @ Aug 07, 2008
please book my i phone
Vijay Gupta @ Aug 06, 2008
no ways its official that airtel and vodafone are goin to launch the iphone for 24000 on 22 august
brijesh @ Aug 06, 2008
Mr Sunil,

Which part of the country are you from? Kerala?

While Apple makes the iPhone why should Vodafone needs its commission Rs 4000 per phone? Just for doing broker business of selling the product?
Amar @ Aug 06, 2008
Bharti Airtel, India's top mobile operator, said on Wednesday it would launch Apple Inc's third-generation iPhone in India on August 22.
RamJackie @ Aug 06, 2008
Bharti Airtel, India's top mobile operator, said on Wednesday it would launch Apple Inc's third-generation iPhone in India on August 22.
RamJackie @ Aug 06, 2008
No I think that 13000 is the right price of an 8 gb model of iphone 3g. calculation on the basis that $199 is the base price in us market+2.5% import duty + vodafone margin of 4000 and the contract is extra
sunil dhawan @ Aug 05, 2008
I can't believe with the price quoted by Vodafone cause the price quoted earlier was 10K, but I already bought a IPhone (8GB) for 28K from the local market, Incase if it's true, I'll change all my other phones to the Iphone. Let's see what Airtel Has to offer ??
Atish @ Aug 05, 2008
it is not possible iphone in just 13000 , there is something hidden in this news I Think
Pratik @ Aug 04, 2008
news is not a properly elaborated,it's just a brief description
vivek @ Aug 04, 2008
Anyone has any more news..??
Hrk @ Aug 04, 2008
Guys, i called the customer care 3 times today. He told dat the date is between 22nd and 28th and was very sure about it. Next time a girl said that the only CONFIRMATION they have is that the launch is in LAST WEEK of august. Mr. Cook of Apple revealed the next launch date as 22nd. In short, TECH 2 is a shameless site giving wrong info. Dont trust this site guys. N the price 13k is not from vodafone but from airtel.
Hrk @ Aug 04, 2008
First of all, the rate mentioned here is subsidized by vodafone. Apple doesnt care a damn if vodafone wants to sell it for 13k or 3k. They are getting paid per device by vodafone.

Secondly, what kind of comment is that regarding needing a pc ? I dint know that other phones in the same segment dint need a pc to transfer songs and stuff.
Pat @ Aug 03, 2008
doesnt seem true at 13k..they are still running short of devices for its bigger markets.. so apple would interested in selling max in the west, especially canada where they are getting the highest margin

at 13k, perdevice, what profit is apple going to make, its a premium device, and will be priced so, only targeted at specific urban young crowd, who atleast owns one pc.

for sure, people without pc cant take advantage of that device, neither can they add song nor videos..and we for sure are not going to pay rs 20 a song and hve it loaded from a vodafone or airtel store..

would u??

i use a iPhone since aug 1, 2007 and perfectly happy with it, but yes u need to have a pc
arun muralidhar @ Aug 02, 2008
I guess launch date is not even in august, its in september. One of the vodafone customer care told me today that vodafone has no plans of launching iphone before september. Whom to believe..?? Customer care or tech2..??
Hrk @ Aug 02, 2008
Hey Pat, nice touche..!!
Well it seems something wrong went with my source but dont u wory. Its coming soon, say on monday.
Hrishikesh @ Aug 01, 2008

Hrishikesh @ Aug 01, 2008

Even the apple people are not commiting about the release date, so how can anyone else????

It seems vodafone also has no plans for iPhones release till the end of this year.......

Hrishikesh @ Jul 31, 2008
There's no way that iphone 3g will sell out @ 13k,

at least 25k? take my word 4 it
Amritaansh Verma @ Jul 31, 2008
Guys there's an update from zee business that the unsubsidized and no commitment iphone 3g will cost 24000/- INR . But the controversial part is that they say launch date for vodafone is between 22nd to 26 th august and not 18th. I am confused- to believe tech2 or zee business for launch date.
I hope tech2 replies..
Hrishikesh @ Jul 31, 2008
I guess is that this iPhone will be sold like Blackberry devices which were sold for hefty price thought they were outdated in most of the features list!

iPhone will be sold for Rs25-Rs30K plus expensive data plans (forced one you, if you want iPhone) plus 2 years contract without warranty (after one year).

It will be like a penalty for your taste towards iPhone!!!!

iPhone for 13K (8 GB) is still expensive for a 2 year contract. In other countries you have the option of utlizing some of the 3G features and also unlimited data (faster!), push emails, vedio calls etc....
Amar @ Jul 30, 2008
What would be monthly plans for X Vodafone guys OR Airtel guys....
Dharanikumar @ Jul 30, 2008
@ JOHN.P.JOHN- i hav already explained u the reason not to compare US dollars with INR. call rates r way different man. believe it or not..but IPHONE WILL BE LAUNCHED FOR 13K..
wait for 1st august..VODAFONE is goin to expose its plan on 1st.
hrk @ Jul 30, 2008
No way they are going to sell this at 13k..... Monthly Cost of cheapest plan is 70$ .... 130$ for unlimited plan.......They will sell this at 13k if we are ready to pay this amount/month....its practically impossible.... so the price gonna be 20K+ for sure
John.P.John @ Jul 30, 2008
what is the cost of iphone and when it will be avalable. what is the rent per month. i am haveing nokia9300i can i exchnge it.
rev fr john sam swain @ Jul 30, 2008
Well u cant do a direct conversion of dollars to INR coz calling rates in US and india are very different. Its jus 2-3 cents max in india compared to 20 cents in US. The IPHONE 3G IS FOR 12K TO 13K IN INDIA.
Hrk @ Jul 30, 2008
this news is based on TRUE RUMORS.
Jayy CENA @ Jul 30, 2008
I dont believe, its going to be 13K, com'on its 3G iphone. AT&T provide it for $200 for a 3 yr contract, and that's $60/month, something like that. It's unocked goes for $800 plus. So 13K is too good to be true.
TechTrends @ Jul 30, 2008
if dey launch with a contract too whats the guarantee for the contract u can always break it in india
shishir @ Jul 30, 2008
Saar, It is $70 per month in US and not $20. And dont expect it to be without contract in India. Not atleast at 13k.
Pat @ Jul 29, 2008
"compare to US price is high in india i
in US 8GB -$ 199 convert into in RS 8995 + Tax + VAT "

Kishore Bhai, In US They are Charging $ Extra Per Month For The AT&T Subscription That too for 2 Years. From what I have Heard it is 20$ A Month So Rs.8995+21600 = 30595+TAX+VAT. So, Don't U Think 13,000/- is Cheaper???
Vijayakrishnan.G.Nair @ Jul 29, 2008
It's giving me a bad feeling ......... Sounds like it may be accompanied with some annual tariff plans ......... something like the Reliance Pioneer Offer which Rel Comm came with initially ....... than it may be bad news ........
Jeegar @ Jul 29, 2008
compare to US price is high in india i
in US 8GB -$ 199 convert into in RS 8995 + Tax + VAT
kishore @ Jul 29, 2008
Guys i-phone can be that cheap also as it has launched it in US for the price of USD 200 only. Even if we increase the price by 50% than also its just USD 300 i.e. INR 12k - 13k only. Be positive
Ankit Jain @ Jul 29, 2008
If its not a confirmed rumour..then what is the point of posting this news ? Just to increase the clicks on your website or what ?
Pritam @ Jul 29, 2008
i think that this phone is ausum and vodafone should launch it as soon as possible
SHRESHTHA AGRAWAL @ Jul 29, 2008
I would go nutz if this comes true. 13k is a STEEAAAL.
iphoneindiablog @ Jul 29, 2008
I asked one of vodafone representative and after asking like that price would be b/w 9Kto13K..
vatsal @ Jul 29, 2008
Its neva gonna be that low !
I asked one of vodafone representative and after asking like 100 things he finally agreed that price would be b/w 20k-25k..
AND it will be without contract.. also the handset will be locked to be used thru a vodafone sim only..
jk @ Jul 29, 2008
I am still waiting this iPhone.
laddi @ Jul 29, 2008
then ull have to pay 1k per month for 2 months... which is insane i asked vodafone
Raghav Bhalla` @ Jul 29, 2008
Does the iPhone 3G support a USB pop port. And can we just copy paste any mp4 video ( XVID, DIVX etc) and play it or do we still have to transcode it for hours with iTunes. If so then the iPhone 3G has a big negative
tukul @ Jul 29, 2008
Ok if iPhone price is set then which service provider to go for Tech2? Should one buy from Vodafone when they launch or go with Airtel. Also I feel there is a slight chance, Airtel may launch with a better deal because their launch is delayed and they need to attract the left over market as well.
Mandeep Sahni @ Jul 29, 2008
watch out for 1st AUGUST guys..!!
there's something waiting for u on 1st..
hrishikesh @ Jul 28, 2008

veera @ Jul 28, 2008
wow. 13000 rupees is TOO LOW? why not make it 89000?
Anshuman @ Jul 28, 2008
yes its true............but shit........make it at least 25,000. i just brought it............
Rocky @ Jul 28, 2008
i think vodafone will sell the iPhone like it is being sold in the US
and will charge some amount of money every month!!
Sidhant Garg @ Jul 28, 2008
its quite possible because at the tag price of $300, this phone is available in open U.S. MARKET.

AS INDIA HAVE BETTER POTENTIAL AND QUANTAM MARKET ITS POSSIBLE TO SALE BELOW 12K TOO.
DURGESH B.DHANDHA @ Jul 28, 2008
Expect at least the double ... with a lockin plan just like AT&T
MaxAxe @ Jul 28, 2008
whats the catch behind this
punit @ Jul 28, 2008
I guess the plans would differ based on the initial cost of purchase...if you want to buy iphone at Rs 9999 (8GB) then shell out 1500 every month or more..if at Rs.12999 then 1K and if at Rs 16999 then 600 every month..something in those lines to generate a one shot 3rd quarter result of triple digit earnings for both vodafone and airtel...just my guess...
Gautam @ Jul 28, 2008
Don't get fooled even if they release the phone around 13k. There might some kind of heavy rentals tagged to them along with the price.
Shivankk Gandhi @ Jul 28, 2008
What would be monthly plans for X Vodafone guys ???
SSSBABU @ Jul 28, 2008
If this is true, I bet the monthly plans would start from 1k per month minimum.
Pat @ Jul 28, 2008
13k Sounds reasonable

what about 16 GB ?
