Windows Vista may be the requisite for games like Halo 2, Gears of War and Crysis, but just how well will it handle your older games? The folks at Extreme Tech tested a couple of games on Vista, that's entered the Beta 2 stage and here's what they have to say about it. World of Warcraft, Oblivion and Half-Life 2 ran perfectly well, but when they tried Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, the game crapped itself. The reason? The cause of all evil; Starforce. According to Extreme Tech, "StarForce installs a low-level (ring 0) driver to access your optical drive, and this driver has not been Vista certified. So Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory asks you to reboot after installing, which you do, and then upon reboot Vista informs you that it won't load the driver due to compatibility problems. What's worse, the StarForce driver will try (and fail) to load every time you reboot, even if you uninstall the game, and the removal tool doesn't work properly by default." And this is why Starforce sucks. To express your hatred toward this software, head over here.
